Today, we are looking at striving (adding our faith) to our promises all the while resting in God’s ability to bring us into our promise land.
Scripture: Hebrews 3 and 4
For those of us who believe, faith activates the promise and we experience the realm of confident rest! vs. 3 TPT
This is our cry…Rend the Heavens Oh Lord and Come Down….Come meet us as we wait upon you, as we seek your face during these days!
This week our focus is REMEMBERING what God has spoken to us…let’s not be like the children of Israel who failed to add faith to God’s promises and therefore did not enter into rest - the fulfillment of what was promised!
Let’s us call to mind what Paul told Timothy; This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare. - I Timothy 1:18
So often instead of waging a good warfare (fighting for, claiming, declaring, contending) for our prophetic promises we put them on a shelf and forget about them.
All the while, we are ‘waiting’ on God for their fulfillment when in reality God is ‘waiting’ on us! He is waiting on us to ‘strive’ - to put forth earnest zeal in seeing our prophetic promises come to pass.
To say, we should strive for our prophetic words, dreams, vision, to come to pass seems contrary to what we have been told…wait on the Lord and He will do it! Wait means to look eagerly for…pursue with confident trust knowing God is well able to do what He has promised.
Did you know that God told the children of Israel to ‘strive’ to enter into rest?
Hebrews 4: 11(AMP) Let us therefore be zealous and exert ourselves and strive diligently to enter that rest [of God, to know and experience it for ourselves], that no one may fall or perish by the same kind of unbelief and disobedience [into which those in the wilderness fell].
3 Kinds of Rest are referred to in Hebrews 3-4
Sabbath Rest: Remember the Sabbath, keep it holy. It takes faith to ‘take a day’ of rest…is God able?
Canaan Rest: Promise Land God had designated a land for His people. They believed the report of the two spies and failed to mix the Word with faith and therefore did not enter into their place of promise - rest. We too have been given an allotted place (land) and we can only enter it by faith (confident trust, believing in the promise)
Jesus Rest: In Jesus Christ we find complete rest
On Earth Shalom means wholeness, completeness, soundness, health, safety and prosperity, carrying with it the implication of permanence, NOTHING BROKEN - NOTHING MISSING! Faith is the key that unlocks this rest!
In Heaven - the ultimate rest for mankind is Heaven. Once again…by faith in Jesus is this rest obtained!
Strive to ENTER into Rest - It seems so counter productive!
IN the flesh striving means we are working things out; we are struggling, worrying, or trying to make something happen.
Strive: In the New Spirit Filled Life Bible it says of G4704 spoudazō means to exert oneself, make every effort, give diligence, make haste, be zealous, strain every nerve, and further the cause assiduously (intensively). Spoudazō combines thinking and acting, planning and producing…the word covers inception, action, and follow-through.
BUT in the Spirit strive means to put forth zeal, endeavor to obtain the promise, to give diligent pursuit to seeing what the Lord has spoken over us be fulfilled.
In other words, we add our faith to God’s promises and make great effort to see His redemptive plan for mankind be fulfilled through our lives.
Other examples of strive found in the Scriptures:
"Strive to enter through the narrow door; for many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able. - Luke 13:24 (ESV)
Now I urge you, brethren, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to strive together with me in your prayers to God for me. - Romans15:30 (ESV)
For it is for this we labor and strive, because we have fixed our hope on the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of believers. - 1Timothy 4:10 (ESV)
I hear the Spirit of the Lord saying…Rehearse back to Me what I spoken. - Isaiah 43:26
Read Hebrews 3-4 and Psalms 105:23-25 (Jacob & family arrive in Egypt)
Take your prophetic word(s), your scriptural promises and insist (be resolute) for their fulfillment.
Insist: to be emphatic, firm, or resolute on some matter of desire, demand, intention, etc.
Take time to wait in God’s presence, listen to the song Won’t Stop Now and let your heart be encouraged!
God’s promises are yes and amen…CHOOSE to BELIEVE His PROMISES over your life!
For the Word of God is living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing apart of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. - Hebrews 11:12
