Day 48 - Angels Assigned to Churches / Regions

Day 48  - Angels Assigned to Churches / Regions

Where Do You Stand?

For  by  Him  all  things  were  created  that  are  in  heaven  and  that  are  on  earth,  visible  and  invisible,  whether  thrones  or  dominions  or  principalities  or  powers.  All  things  were  created  through  Him  and  for  Him.  And  He  is  before  all  things,  and  in  Him  all  things  consist.  -  Colossians  1:16  -17

Angels Assigned to Churches

Revelation 1:4, 11, 20  4 John to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace, from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne…saying, 11 "Write in a book what you see, and send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus and to Smyrna and to Pergamum and to Thyatira and to Sardis and to Philadelphia and to Laodicea.”…20 "As for the mystery of the seven stars which you saw in My right hand, and the seven golden lampstands: the seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches.

In Angel Armies, Tim Sheets writes; “Angels are commissioned to save our God-given assignments. The Greek word for angels is aggelos meaning “a messenger” (Strong, G32). Hebrews 1:14 says they are all ministering spirits. Ministering means “to bring relief, a public servant, to perform religious or charitable functions” (Strong, G3010) Sent is the Greek word apostello meaning “set apart, set at liberty, to send out on a mission, and to send from one place to another for business or employment” (Strong, G649)

Angels are assigned to places or regions to help do business. Of course, they can also go from place to place. Also, and importantly, apostello is a derivative of apostolos, which is the Greek word for apostle, pointing toward this vital definition: the work of apostles and the ministry of angels flow together, operating hand in hand (Strong, G652). Apostles and angels are divinely linked and assigned together to places and regions.

Jesus, the head of the church, describes the ministry of angels and the work of apostles as linked in the book of Revelation. The apostle John receives a message from Jesus, which was a message written to seven churches that are in Asia Minor. Notice, there are seven regions specially mentioned. Each letter begins with the words, “Write this letter to the angel of the church” (Rev. 2:1, 8, 12, 18; 3:1, 7, 14 NLT) - Angel Armies, Chapter 7, Pages 98-99

The “sent one” to each church is referred to by Jesus as the aggelos. Why? Because both angles and apostles can men “sent ones to a region with a message”

7 Churches /  Regions

Each letter to the seven churches has the following features

  • An address to a particular congregation
  • An introduction of Jesus
  • A statement regarding the condition of the church
  • A verdict from Jesus regarding the condition of the church
  • A command from Jesus to the church
  • A general exhortation to all Christians
  • A promise of reward

There are numerous views on the 7 churches addressed in Revelation. But in general most scholars believe the letters can be viewed in 3 ways: First,  it describes conditions that existed in the churches at the time, Secong, gives a view of Christianity on earth at any one time and third, a consecutive view of the history of Christianity representing a distinct time period.

Where Do You Stand?

Here is an abbreviated summary of the lessons we can learn from the instruction God gave each church:

  • Ephesus (Revelation 2:1-7): Don’t lose your love for God’s truth or His people.
  • Smyrna (Revelation 2:8-11): Remain faithful in the face of tribulation and poverty.
  • Pergamos (Revelation 2:12-17): Resist Satan’s influence, even to death, if necessary.
  • Thyatira (Revelation 2:18-29): Resist false teaching.
  • Sardis (Revelation 3:1-6): Remain zealous and pure in conduct.
  • Philadelphia (Revelation 3:7-13): Persevere and walk through the doors God opens.
  • Laodicea (Revelation 3:14-22): Don’t become lukewarm about God’s way of life.

Jesus concludes all 7 Letters with with the words, “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches”

“The Church by definition is to be a movement. It is time for the church of the King to begin to move from complacency to focused Christianity. From intimidation to great valor. From hopelessness to faith and confidence in the living God. To move from the four walls into the streets…From selfish, “what’s in it for me” Christianity to servants of God doing His will. From consumer Christianity to discipleship.

It’s time for a new outpouring of the Holy Spirit and for some fresh fire to come upon the people of God. It’s time for the apostles and the apostates to transform their regions with a Gospel of power.”
