Beloved of God,
God knows your name, He knows exactly where you are, how you are doing, and what you have need of...He is Yahweh Roi!
I have a special treat for today's devotion. I ask my son Josiah to share his thoughts on today's passage, please see attached video.
Keep Looking Up, God's know you by name!
Day 5 – Hagar & Ismael
Angels at the Ready
First Mention of Angels
The law of first mention says that, to understand a particular word or doctrine, we must find the first place in Scripture that word or doctrine is revealed and study that passage. The reasoning is that the Bible’s first mention of a concept is the simplest and clearest presentation; doctrines are then more fully developed on that foundation. So, to fully understand an important and complex theological concept, Bible students are advised to start with its “first mention.”
We see 3 first mentions in this passage:
1. Angel first appearance
2. Ismael was named before he was born
3. Hagar, named God Yahweh Roi
And Sarai was cruel to her, so that she went running away from her. And an angel of the Lord came to her by a
fountain of water in the waste land, by the fountain on the way to Shur (wilderness). And he said, Hagar, Sarai's
servant, where have you come from and where are you going? And she said, I am running away from Sarai,
my master's wife. And the angel said to her, Go back, and put yourself under her authority.. Then she called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, You-Are-the-God-Who-Sees; for she said, "Have I also here seen Him who sees me?" - Genesis 16:6-9, 13
What foundational truths can we glean from this passage regarding angel visitations?
1. Angel of the Lord found her sitting by a spring of water in the wilderness…called her by name!
2. Angel spoke to her…” where have you come from and where are you going”?
3. Angel gave instructions: go back… I will multiply your descendants exceedingly…you shall bear a son &
Shall call his name Ismael (God will hear)
4. Obedience to the instructions brought forth a path for destiny to manifest.
5. The Lord was revealed as Yahweh Roi – the God who sees (you)!
Word of the Lord
My beloved, I come as Yahweh Roi, the God who sees you! I know the path set before you; as with Hagar sometimes the path is hard, filled with distress, and mistreatment from men. But know this, in the midst of distress and in times of delay, even in the midst of the wilderness I can reveal Myself – I see you says the Lord.
There is a well, a spring of water you can sit by and receive refreshing, receive revelation and direction from Me. I Am Yahweh Roi – I see you and have come to reveal My way for your life. Sit by the River and let Me speak to you, let My angels assist you in finding the path for your destiny to fully manifest in this new Kingdom move.
Open our eyes, Lord! Ask for revelation concerning angelic assistance!
Open my eyes, so that I will see wonders from your Torah - Psalms 119:18 CJB
What does the Bible say?
Read: Genesis 16:1-16
God had given Abram a promise; to be the father of many nations but when the promise was delayed Sarai decided she would help fulfill the promise by giving her maidservant Hagar to Abram – ‘perhaps the promise will be fulfilled through her’. Of course as it always does trying to help God fulfill a promise never works out the way we planned. Although Sarai took the promise down a path the Lord had not intended through His graciousness He remembered the promise spoken to Abram and blessed Hagar and Ismael.
Action: First: The first mention of angels coming to assist men was to Hagar regarding Ismael, an heir of Abraham.
Hagar didn’t ask to be given to Abram as a wife, nor did she want the distress and mistreatment that followed but God saw her and came down to meet her in the wilderness as she sat by the springs pondering what direction her life was to take…the Angel of the Lord ‘Yahweh Roi – I see you” came to minister to her and revealed the path of destiny for her and her unborn son. The Angel of the Lord name Ismael (God who hears) before He was born and destined him to me a great nation.
If you find yourself sitting in a wilderness place, look for the springs of water. Sit there; let the One who sees manifest Himself to you. Let Yahweh Roi reveal the path you are to walk on in this season. Receive instructions from Him and release the angels to assist you in walking out your destiny.
Declare: Angels assigned to me the day I was born have been brief concerning my purpose, and they are parenting with me to accomplish God’s will for my life. Pg. 204 Angel Armies
