Stop today, sit at the feet of Jesus, take in the amazing revelation that is available during these 50 days of Feasts of Weeks. My prayer for you and for me is that we do not treat this season like any other devotional time. Because it is NOT - this is a special 'kairos' season where we can see, hear, and perceive things that we have not known up till NOW!
Day 24 – Samson’s Birthed Announced!
Angel of the Lord Appearance
For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him, all things consist. - Colossians 1:16 -17
Today, we will look at another appearance of the Angel of the Lord; our passage is Judges 13 – the birth of Samson announced! After Gideon, the children of Israel once again ‘played the harlot’ succumbed to idolatry. As in the past, their choice of gods delivered then into the hands of the Philistines for forty years.
Wow, what a pattern we see in the Old Testament – the people of God worship others gods, which leads to captivity and subjugation to the enemy, they cry out to God, He delivers them…then the cycle repents itself.
We often see the same cycle in our lives; may we end the cycle of destruction this season. Let’s move completely into the promised land the Lord has destined for us – the place where we wholeheartedly worship the Lord without the attachment of any form of idolatry. Let’s BREAK the cycle and move into FREEDOM!
In Judges 13 we see the Angel of the Lord appearing to Manoah’s wife. 3the Angel of the LORD appeared to the woman and said to her. The Angel announces her barrenness…Indeed Now, you are barren, BUT you shall conceive and bear a son.
Then the Angel of the Lord gives her explicit instructions on how to care for the child during pregnancy – Samson would be a Nazarite from the womb. The Angel also revealed Samson’s call as a deliverer of Israel from the hand of the Philistines. (See Judges 13:3-5)
What stood out to me in verse 5 was when the Angel said, ‘he shall begin to deliver’… he shall begin to deliver
Israel out of the hand of the Philistines. This reveals that the Philistines were going to be a thorn in Israel side for quite a while.
The woman goes to tell her husband; 6 A Man of God came to me, and His countenance was like the countenance of the Angel of God, very awesome; but I did not ask Him where He was from, and He did not tell me His name.
Manoah (rest, a settled spot) prayed; 8 "O my Lord, please let the Man of God whom You sent come to us again and teach us what we shall do for the child who will be born."
The Lord God listened to his prayer; 9 and the Angel of God came to the woman again as she was sitting in the field; but Manoah her husband was not with her.
So she ran to get her husband that he might see and converse with the Angel. Manoah as previous people before him visited by the Angel of the Lord asked questions: Are you He who came? The Angel answers; “I am” BUT then Manoah ask another question in which the Angel did not answer “What will be the boy's rule of life and his work?" Instead, the Angel of the Lord reiterates the instructions that He had given to Manoah’s wife regarding foods consumed during her pregnancy.
Its human nature to want to know all the ‘ends and out’ of a matter, of our call, or life BUT as we have seen before the Lord rarely gives us all the details INSTEAD He says, Walk by Faith, I will show you what you need to know, when you need to know it.
Manoah ask another question; “What is Your Name”? I’ve heard it said that we should ask angels their names to see if they are from God or from the enemy? So far in our study of angels we have not seen them answer this question – we have seen them announce who they are…I’m the Angel of the Lord, I’m Gabriel, etc.
Judges 13:18 And the Angel of the LORD said to him, "Why do you ask My name, seeing it is secret?"
In this passage though, when the Angel says, “seeing it is secret” the Hebrew word is pil'ı̂y meaning remarkable: - secret, wonderful. Some scholars believe the Angel is referencing one of the names of Jesus found in Isaiah 9.
6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and peace, there shall be no end,
Manoah and his wife prepare a burnt offering to the Lord. 19 The Angel of the Lord So Manoah took the young goat with the grain offering and offered it upon the rock to the LORD. And He did a wondrous thing while Manoah and his wife looked on— 20 it happened as the flame went up toward heaven from the altar—the Angel of the LORD ascended in the flame of the altar! When Manoah and his wife saw this, they fell on their faces to the ground. 21 When the Angel of the LORD appeared no more to Manoah and his wife, then Manoah knew that He was the Angel of the LORD.
One last interesting thing about this appearance of the Angel of the Lord; after the Angel left Manoah thought they would surely die because they had seen the Angel of the Lord. But, his wife said; 23 If the LORD were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt offering and a meat offering at our hands, neither would he have shewed us all these things nor would as at this time have told us such things as these.
In other words; honey, if God wanted to kill us He would not have appeared to us nor spoken a prophetic word regarding our future child and his destiny to deliver Israel.
24 And the woman bare a son, and called his name Samson: and the child grew, and the LORD blessed him.
25And the Spirit of the LORD began to move him at times in the camp of Dan between Zorah and Eshtaol.
