Day 16 – Balaam & the Angel of the Lord

Day 16 – Balaam & the Angel of the Lord

Don’t Kick the Donkey

For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. - Colossians 1:16 -17

Today, we are looking into the prophet Balaam; he was not an Israelite prophet – he used sorcery to prophesy. He was called upon by Balak, king of the Moabites to curse Israel because of their vast size. The fame of God’s deliverance had been heard throughout the region so this king wanted an advantage over Israel…a curse from the prophet.

In Numbers 22 we see Balak send elders to get Balaam…9God came to Balaam and said, who are these men with you? 12God said, you shall not go with them; you shall not curse the people, for they are blessed.

Balaam tells the king that he cannot curse Israel. But Balak doesn’t want to believe it so he sends princes more distinguished than the elders and offers to reward Balaam handsomely…17I will certainly honor you greatly. 18 Then Balaam answered and said to the servants of BalakThough Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not go beyond the word of the Lord my God, to do less or more.19Now therefore, please, you stay here tonight, that I may know what more the Lord will say to me. Balaam inquires of the Lord, the Lord says, 20if the men come to call you rise and go with them – that you shall do21 So Balaam rose in the morning saddled his donkey, and went with the princes of Moab. God had told Balaam that he could go with the princes ‘if’ they came to him. BUT Balaam didn’t wait to be called up, he decided to go find the princes and go with them.

Numbers 22:22 Then God's anger was aroused because he went, and the Angel of the LORD took His stand in the way as an adversary against him. And he was riding on his donkey, and his two servants were with him.

Balaam’s eyes were closed to the Angel of the Lord but his donkey’s eyes were opened. Nine times the Angel of the Lord is mentioned in verses 22-40. If wasn’t until the donkey talked Balaam that his eyes were opened to see the Angel of the Lord. 34And Balaam said to the Angel of the LORD, "I have sinned, for I did not know You stood in the way against me. Now therefore, if it displeases You, I will turn back."  35Then the Angel of the LORD said to Balaam, "Go with the men, but only the word that I speak to you, that you shall speak." So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.

Word of the Lord

Don’t kick the donkey’s I place in your path says the Lord. I will send My messengers, some will appear as foolish but don’t discount what I am speaking. Daily ask for your ears and eyes to be open to My messengers. I am revealing, I am speaking and showing you the path you must walk on in this season. So don’t discount the little even at time the foolish things I’m asking of you because this is how I’m choosing to lead My people in this hour. Listen for the still small voice, watch for the donkey’s on your road, and watch and see where I will take you in this season, says the Lord.

Open our eyes, Lord!

Open my eyes to see wonderful things in your Word. - Psalms 119:18 (TLB)

What does the Bible say?

Read: Numbers 22 – 24 let Holy Spirit reveal truth to you out of this passage. Whom God has blessed, no man can curse. Balaam prophesied 4 times and each time the prophetic word was a blessing to Israel and destruction to their enemies.

Action: Align your heart to hear the Lord in this hour. Ask Holy Spirit to open your ears and eyes to see the messengers of the Lord. Determine to listen and obey. KNOW you are blessed and a curse without cause cannot alight.

Decree: My ears and eyes are open to the messengers of the Lord. I choose to listen and obey the directives of the Lord even when they come through donkeys
