Week 3 ~ The Angel of the Lord
Day 15 – Moses and the Burning Bush
Called as a Deliverer
For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. - Colossians 1:16 -17
This week we are going to look into the scriptures where the Angel of the Lord appeared to men. Many Bible scholars believe these occurrences were theophany’s (the appearance of God in a visible form – most believe it was Jesus). We have already seen the Angel of the Lord appear to Hagar in Genesis 16 and to Abraham and Sarah in Genesis 18 and in chapter 22.
Today, we’ll look into Moses at the burning bush in Exodus 3:2 The angel of the LORD appeared to him in a blazing fire from the midst of a bush; and he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, yet the bush was not consumed.
The New Spirit Life Bible says of this verse; One unusual “angel” – the Angel of the Lord – is different from all others in that this Angel receives worship. How could this be? No angel can receive worship, which belongs to God alone. The angel Lucifer was expelled from heaven for trying to receive such worship. The mystery is solved in this text where the Angel of the Lord is revealed to be the Lord God (see Acts 7:30-32). But how could Moses and other OT persons have seen God face- to-face and lived since Scripture clearly states the contrary (Ex. 33:20)? The answer: because they saw the Son of God in reincarnate form, known in the OT as the Angel of the Lord – the Messenger [Angel] of the covenant. (Mal. 3:1).
God called to him…take off your shoes!
Ex 3:4-6 And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the midst of the bush and said, Moses, Moses! And he said, Here am I. God said, Do not come near; put your shoes off your feet, for the place on which you stand is holy ground. Also He said, I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.
I have Seen – El Roi
…I have surely seen the affliction of My people… I have come down to deliver them and to bring them up out of bondage, to a land good and large, a land flowing with milk and honey…God also told Moses there would be giants in the land.
Called as a Deliverer
Ex. 3: 10 Come now therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh, that you may bring forth My people, the Israelites, out of Egypt.
Word of the Lord
Surely, I have seen your affliction says the Lord. I am well able to deliver you and bring into a land flowing with milk and honey – the land of promise. I want you free from all encumbrances; for I have called you to be a deliverer of those bound to the ways of this world. I have destined and appointed you to come progressively to know My will [to perceive, to recognize more strongly and clearly, and to become better and more intimately acquainted with My will], and to see the Righteous One (Jesus Christ, the Messiah), and to hear a voice from His [own] mouth and a message from His [own] lips - Acts 22:14 (AMP) says the Spirit of the Lord.
Open our eyes, Lord!
Uncover my eyes, that I may look at wonderful things from your law.- Psalms 119:18 (LEB)
What does the Bible say?
Read: Exodus 3:1-22 this passage parallels where many are today, still in captivity - maybe not physically but spiritually and mentally. It’s time to move beyond our own limitations and religiosity. It’s time to move into the Kingdom realm where all things are possible.
Action: Let Holy Spirit reveal truth to you out of this passage. Identity places in you where you are still in captivity (especially spiritually and mentally) and then DECIDE TO GO BEYOND!
Decree: I hear the voice of the Lord Jesus. I know who I am and where I am going. The angels of the Lord are on my path directing me to my promise land. I am a deliverer!
