Day 8 – Called Us by Name
For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him, all things consist. - Colossians 1:16 -17
The last couple of days we looked into Hagar and Ismael. We saw how the Lord promised Abram and Sarai a son but the promised was delayed so they decided to help it along, NOT A SMART MOVE! But in God’s loving mercy He rescued Ismael and Hagar and promised to make him a great nation. Oh, and He got Abram and Shari back on track to see their promise fulfilled too!
In Genesis 21 we see the Lord fulfilling His promise to Abraham and Sarah. But a few years into their life together the Lord chose to test Abraham’s faith.
Abraham’s Faith Confirmed
Genesis 22:1, 11 Now it came to pass after these things that God tested Abraham, and said to him, "Abraham!"
And he said, "Here I am."….But the Angel of the LORD called to him from heaven and said, "Abraham,
Abraham!" So he said, "Here I am.
Even in the midst of hard places, impossible situations the Lord God Almighty knows our name…Abraham, Abraham!
God Knows Our Name
In Exodus 33:12 we read… 'I know you by name, and you have also found grace in My sight'. The Hebrew word for the name in this passage is Shem H8034 ‘name’… a mark or memorial of individuality; by implication honor, authority, character. It has to do with our identity (the name or essential character that identifies somebody or something).
Written within Abraham’s name was God’s promise…Abraham ‘father of many nations’. The Lord had spoken His revealed will ‘prophetic word’ to Abram several times so Abraham had nothing to fear because He knew God was faithful to fulfill His Word.
