Day 7 - Zerubbabel, An Apostolic Reformer!

Our focus this first week of counting the omer has been the Voice of God; what is God saying to the Church and Nation in this hour? We have heard that a major reformation is taking place from our house to the White House God is dismantling, shifting and rebuilding our lives and Nation to better reflect His original blueprint.

Two of the things needed during a reformation is the Voice of God (prophetic word) and apostolic reformers; men and women who hear the Word and set their face to obey and accomplish (build) what is being revealed.

We see both of these elements in Zerubbabel; once King Cyrus released the decree ‘to build the house of the Lord in Jerusalem’ he rose to the challenge.

Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, in order to fulfill the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he sent a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and also put it in writing, saying: "Thus says Cyrus king of Persia, 'The LORD, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth and He has appointed me to build Him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. 'Whoever there is among you of all His people, may his God be with him! Let him go up to Jerusalem which is in Judah and rebuild the house of the LORD, the God of Israel; He is the God who is in Jerusalem… everyone whose spirit God had stirred to go up and rebuild the house of the LORD which Nebuchadnezzar had carried away from Jerusalem and put in the house of his gods… Also King Cyrus brought out the articles of the house of the LORD… and he counted them out to Sheshbazzar (Zerubbabel), the prince of Judah… All the articles of gold and silver numbered 5,400.(Zerubbabel) brought them all up with the exiles who went up from Babylon to Jerusalem. - Ezra 1:1-3, 5,7,11

At the decree of King Cyrus, Zerubbabel left Babylon to rebuild the Temple of the Lord. The rebuilding wasn’t a smooth process; they built the foundation right away but then the enemy rose up in opposition and the work ceased for almost 15 years. But once again the prophetic word was released stirring up the spirit of Zerubbabel, Joshua and others they rose up and finished building the Temple.

Zerubbabel was truly an apostolic reformer. He rebuilt the Temple and the altar of the God so burnt offerings could be given to the Lord. He led the emancipated Jews back from Babylon, restored the courses of priests and Levites and brought back the celebration of Passover.

We see a major reformation unfolding in Ezra, Nehemiah, Haggai and Zechariah. It took people (reformers) who heard the Word of the Lord responded in faith and bold action to partner with God / Holy Spirit in restoring His divine order in the land. The angel said to Zerubbabel; Not by might, nor by power (your own strength) but by My Spirit says the Lord will these things take place.

We need these same people of resolve today! We are in the midst of a great reformation in this nation we can’t stop now - bold, faith filled, hearers of the Spirit are needed in this hour. It’s time to arise, heed the Voice of God and build the heavenly blueprint (plumb line) for our lives, the Church and America.

Read: Zechariah 4 – 6, Haggai 1 – 2:1-9

Take Action: Not by might, nor by power BUT by the Spirit!

  • Reread Zec. 4…what do you see or perceive by the Spirit?
  • How does this passage affect your life? Ask the Spirit to drop the plumb line of the Lord into the areas of your life and this nation that need to be reformed / transformed.
  • Look again at the Haggai passages: Are you available to be a reformer for the Lord?
  • How does this passage reflect where we are as a Nation?
  • Pray for this nation – Ask Holy Spirit to empower those He has chosen to shake things up, tear things down and build again to do whatever is necessary to get America back to God’s original intent  for her.

Declare: I speak the shattering word of Grace, Grace to every obstacle (mountain) that stands in opposition to God’s plumb line coming down from heaven into my life and nation. Transformation / Reformation will have its complete work in me and in this land. We are returning to God’s divine blueprint; He will be glorified in the land!
