First mention of: The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. - Genesis 1:2

Spirit Referred to as: the eternal Spirit, His Spirit, Holy Spirit, My Spirit, The Spirit of God, the Spirit of the Lord, Spirit of, the Spirit, and Your Spirit. - 9 different words used to describe the Spirit in NASB.

What we know so far:

  • Jesus said it was to our advantage that He go to heaven so the Helper (Holy Spirit) would come to us.

  • Spirit was at creation, hovering, bringing forth life to the earth and mankind.

  • Spirit is a person, not a force.

  • Spirit is part of the Godhead.

The doctrine of the Holy Spirit is vast it has the following major divisions: Person of the Holy Spirit: The Personality of the Holy Spirit; The Deity of the Holy Spirit; The Titles of the Holy Spirit; The Types of the Holy Spirit, Work of the Holy Spirit and Eschatology of the Holy Spirit.

The KEY purpose in learning about the Spirit is for you (us) to embrace His fellowship.

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all - 2 Corinthians 13:14

Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy. - Philippines 2:1

  • Fellowship / Communion G2842 (Thayer) koinōnia fellowship, association, community, communion, joint participation. Companionship

Fellowship denotes relationship, spending time together, becoming aquatinted with their character or attributes and wanting to honor them.

We make a special effort to get to know that ‘special someone’. How much more are we to make a special effort to get to know the Holy Spirit - He longs to have fellowship with us!

Day 30 - Deity of the Holy Spirit!

Shalom,

Yesterday, we started week 5. Over the next few weeks we will learn of the Holy Spirits acts, ways and works upon the earth and with men.
As we begin this study of the Holy Spirit the question to be settled is: “Who is the Holy Spirit?” First and foremost we must come to understand that The Holy Spirit is a Person - NOT - a force!

Theologian John Walvoord says in his book, The Holy Spirit, “It is a fundamental revelation of Scripture that the Holy Spirit is a person in the same sense that God the Father is a person and the Lord Jesus Christ is a person.” [John Walvoord, The Holy Spirit, p. 5]

This idea of personhood in relation to the Holy Spirit has been subject to denial and neglect throughout Church history and is seldom understood by modern day Christians. Most modern day Christians view the Holy Spirit as an impersonal force rather than a real person.

IF, the Holy Spirit can be shown to be directly linked with terms descriptive of personality,

AND, the Holy Spirit can be shown to act as a person would act,

AND, the Holy Spirit can be shown to be a separate identifiable person in relation to other persons, THEN, the Holy Spirit can clearly be identified as a person rather than an impersonal force. - The Personality of the Holy Spirit, Valley Bible Church, Theology School

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. - Genesis 1:1
The Spirit of God At Creation

  • Genesis 1:2 The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was was moving (hovering, brooding) over the face of the waters.

  • Moved H7363 râchaph A primitive root; to brood; by implication to be relaxed: - flutter, move, shake.

  • Job 26:12 By His Spirit He adorned the heavens; His hand pierced the fleeing serpent.

  • Psalms 33:6 By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, And by the breath of His mouth all their host.

  • Breath Ruach H7307 BDB Spirit of God, the third person of the triune God, the Holy Spirit, coequal, coeternal with the Father and the Son.

The word “spirit” (in Hebrew is ruach and is cited in the OT – 378.  In the Greek it is pneuma and is cited in the NT – 379 times.) is the word used from ancient times to describe and explain the experience of divine power working in, upon, and around men, and understood by them as the power of God.

Let US…Father, Son, Holy Spirit

Created Man

  • Genesis 1:26 Then God said, Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.

  • Genesis 2:7 Then the LORD God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being

  • Job 33:4 The Spirit of God has made me, And the breath of the Almighty gives me life.

7 Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? 8 If I ascend to heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there. 9 If I take the wings of the dawn, If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, 10 Even there Your hand will lead me, And Your right hand will lay hold of me. 11 If I say, "Surely the darkness will overwhelm me, And the light around me will be night,” 12 Even the darkness is not dark to You, And the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are alike to You.

- Psalms 139:7-12

OH, THAT You would rend the heavens and that You would come down, that the mountains might quake and flow down at Your presence--As when fire kindles the brushwood and the fire causes the waters to boil--to make Your name known to Your adversaries, that the nations may tremble at Your presence! - Isaiah 64:1-2

Day 29 - It is Expedient for You!

Dearly Beloved,

Jesus says in, John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter (Helper) will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. It's time for new wine, a fresh infusion of the third person of the Trinty, Holy Spirit.

Get Under the Spout of Heaven,

Sharon

It Is Expedient for You!

It’s the 29th day of Rend the Heavens. This number also has a prophetic meaning for today’s message.

  • 2 = witness, harmony (union) its Hebrew letter bet = house or dwelling - a holy habitation. (Eph. 2:20-22).

  • 9 = symbolizes divine completeness or conveys the meaning of finality (Jesus died on the 9th hr.) also fruit of God's Holy Spirit (Gal. 5:22 - 23) and the gifts of the Holy Spirit ( I Cor. 12)

  • 9 - Hebrew  letter tet womb, visitationnew wine. Pictorially its ancient form resembles a basket, womb, and even a coiled snake. There’s good and evil associated with the number 9.

  • 20 = waiting with expectancy, its Hebrew letter is kaf = hand or palm from karah to bend or bow.

We are in the Hebraic year of 5779 a tet year representing fulfillment, concealment, fruitfulness and multiplication. The devil (that snake) may throw his worst, try to squeeze the life out of us, but we will see clearly, overcome, flourish, prevail and power through with the Word of the Lord, prayer and praise anyway.
5779 is also a year for new wine to flow, a fresh flow of God’s Spirit is being made available to His people.

We have entered week 5 of Rend the Heavens, 22 days from now will be Pentecost. During the remaining days we will learn of the Holy Spirit; the Third person of the trinity, one with the Father and the Son. The Holy Spirit is the agent from which another great awakening will come. If we want to be used in this coming outpouring we must come to know the Spirit better, to become more personally acquainted with His acts and ways. Jesus told us in John 16 that it was expedient that He went back to Heaven so the Holy Spirit could be released upon the earth.

Let’s Become Better Aquatinted With Holy Spirit

Jesus says in, John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter (Helper) will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

However, I am telling you nothing but the truth when I say it is profitable (good, expedient, advantageous) for you that I go away. Because if I do not go away, the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you [into close fellowship with you]; but if I go away, I will send Him to you [to be in close fellowship with you]. (AMP)

But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I don’t go away, the comforting Counselor will not come to you. However, if I do go, I will send him to you. (CJB)

But the truth is that My departure will be a gift that will serve you well, because if I don’t leave, the great Helper will not come to your aid. When I leave, I will send Him to you. (Voice)
Expedient G4851 (Thayer) sumpherō

But when the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) comes, Whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of Truth Who comes (proceeds) from the Father, He [Himself] will testify regarding Me. - John 15:26

Day 28 - Becoming A Holy Habitation!

Shalom,

It’s the 28th day of Rend the Heavens. This number also has a prophetic meaning for today’s message.

  • 2 = witness, harmony (union) its Hebrew letter bet = house or dwelling (spiritual house I Pe. 2:4-5; Eph. 2:20-22).

  • 8 = new beginnings and life (chaim) its Hebrew letter chet = A doorway or entrance.  The letter is formed using 2 letters vav (man) and zayin (scepter & a sword) It equals a crowned man or man with authority). Vav is a connecting letter. We are the crowned vav who connects heaven to earth through the Blood of Jesus. We access His throne through intercession.

  • 20 = waiting with expectancy, its Hebrew letter is kaf = hand or palm from karah to bend or bow.

What are these letters / numbers speaking? A new beginning is before the Church!  As a witness to the Lord, the Church will come into harmony which will create a habitation for the Lord’s presence. A  doorway of life is opening that will produce mighty men and women who connect heaven and earth through the bending of their knees in intercession. The hiding of God’s power is within His hands; the Church is the hands and feet of the Lord. This new union will released a fresh wave of awakening with signs and wonders following the Word being released. We wait in expectancy for this new thing!

4 Elements of Awakening

These were all evident in every previous awakening:

  1. Fear of the Lord

  2. Hunger for righteousness and the Holy Spirit - to have a strong desire!

  3. See the Need (state of affairs in Church and in our world)

  4. United Front: <rally the troops> from 2 elderly ladies, to men gathering during lunch, to denominations uniting for prayer and meetings….the key was UNITY!

    • Unite: come or bring together for a common purpose or action; join, combine, connect, consolidate, unite.

A Holy Habitation

Ephesians 2:20-22 AMP  20 You are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets with Christ Jesus Himself the chief Cornerstone. 21In Him the whole structure is joined (bound, welded) together harmoniously, and it continues to rise (grow, increase) into a holy temple in the Lord [a sanctuary dedicated, consecrated, and sacred to the presence of the Lord]. 22 In Him [and in fellowship with one another] you yourselves also are being built up [into this structure] with the rest, to form a fixed abode (dwelling place - a habitation) of God in (by, through) the Spirit.

Love One Another

  • John 13:34- 35  34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 "By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.

  • John 15:12  This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you.

Power of Agreement Brings Signs & Wonders

Acts 4:24; 30-31   24 And when they heard this (you are not speak any more in Jesus’  name), they lifted their voices to God with one accord and said, "O Lord, it is You who MADE THE HEAVEN AND THE EARTH AND THE SEA, AND ALL THAT IS IN THEM, 30 while You extend Your hand to heal, and signs and wonders take place through the name of Your holy servant Jesus.” 31 And when they had prayed, the place where they had gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God with boldness.

  • Acts 5:12  At the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were taking place among the people; and they were all with one accord in Solomon's portico.

  • Acts 8:6  The crowds with one accord were giving attention to what was said by Philip, as they heard and saw the signs which he was performing.

The Enemy Unites

  • Acts 18:12  But while Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews with one accord rose up against Paul and brought him before the judgment seat.

  • Acts 19:29  The city was filled with the confusion, and they rushed with one accord into the theater, dragging along Gaius and Aristarchus, Paul's traveling companions from Macedonia.

  • 2Th 2:9  that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders.

Peter In Jail - Church Unites in Prayer

Acts 12:5-9 So Peter was kept in the prison, but prayer for him was being made fervently by the church to God….behold, an angel of the Lord suddenly…he went out and continued to follow, and he did not know that what was being done by the angel was real, but thought he was seeing a vision.

Enemy Very Angry

Acts 12:18-20 18 Now when day came, there was no small disturbance among the soldiers as to what could have become of Peter.19 When Herod had searched for him and had not found him, he examined the guards and ordered that they be led away to execution. Then he went down from Judea to Caesarea and was spending time there.  20Now he was very angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon; and with one accord they came to him, and having won over Blastus the king's chamberlain, they were asking for peace, because their country was fed by the king's country.

God’s Response to the Enemy’s Threats

Acts 12:23-25 23And immediately an angel of the Lord struck him because he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and died. 24 But the word of the Lord continued to grow and to be multiplied. 25 And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem when they had fulfilled their mission, taking along with them John, who was also called Mark.

Glorify God with One Voice

Romans 15:6  so that with one accord you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Sanctify Us In Truth

John 17:17-18; 20-23  17 "Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth. 18 "As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. 20 "I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; 21 that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me. 22 "The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; 23 I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, SO that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me.

Day 27 - See and Be Radiant!

Shalom Friends,

What a beautiful time to be alive, our God Reigns! Today, May 17 is the 27th day of Rend the Heavens. Prophetically it means May the grace and Victory of the Lord be upon us to preach the gospel of the Kingdom and bring the Church and world into the restoration of God’s divine order. (( 5= grace, 17 = victory, 27 = preach the gospel, restoration and prophesy).

Prophesy to the 4 Elements...Rend the Heavens O' God, Breath Spirit of God upon these elements of awakening. Blow Wind of the Spirit. We prophesy the fear of the Lord, hunger for righteousness and Holy Spirit, along with the ability to see the state of the affairs in our world is returning to the Church. These will lead us (Church) into a Oneness that causes us to go out into the highways and byways turning the world upside down or right side (Kingdom order) is at hand.

The greatest awakening is yet upon us...let it be so!

To Us It Has Been Given

Jesus taught in parables because ‘in hearing they did not hear, and in seeing they did not see’. He was referring to the religious leaders and people of the day. Jesus stated that His follows had been given  (granted) the ability to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven / of God. (Mt. 13:11-13; Mk 4:11)

Darkness Covers the Earth - BUT the Lord Will Rise

Isaiah 60:1-3  1Arise, shine; for your light has come, And the glory of the LORD has risen upon you. 2 For behold, darkness will cover the earth And deep darkness the peoples; But the LORD will rise upon you And His glory will appear upon you. 3 "Nations will come to your light, And kings to the brightness of your rising.

See and Be Radiant

Isaiah 60:4-5 4 Lift up your eyes all around, and see: They all gather together, they come to you; Your sons shall come from afar, And your daughters shall be nursed at your side. 5 Then you shall see and become radiant, And your heart shall swell with joy; Because the abundance of the sea shall be turned to you, The wealth of the Gentiles shall come to you.

Isaiah 5:18-23 18 Woe to those who drag iniquity with the cords of falsehood, And sin as if with cart ropes;  19 Who say, "Let Him make speed, let Him hasten His work, that we may see it; And let the purpose of the Holy One of Israel draw near And come to pass, that we may know it!” 20 Woe to those who call evil good, and good evilWho substitute darkness for light and light for darknessWho substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! 21 Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes And clever in their own sight! 22 Woe to those who are heroes in drinking wine And valiant men in mixing strong drink, 23 Who justify the wicked for a bribe, And take away the rights of the ones who are in the right!

ASK FOR THE NATIONS

The Reign of the Lord's Anointed

Psalms 2:1-12   Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying, 3 "Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us.4 He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The LORD shall hold them in derision. 5 Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, And distress them in His deep displeasure: 6 "Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion.” 7 "I will declare the decree: The LORD has said to Me, 'You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. 8 Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession. 9 You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter's vessel.' “ 10 Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed, you judges of the earth. 11 Serve the LORD with fear, And rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.

A Great Light

Isaiah 9:2 -7  2The people who walk in darkness Will see a great light; Those who live in a dark land, The light will shine on them. 3 You have multiplied the nation And increased its joy; They rejoice before You According to the joy of harvest, As men rejoice when they divide the spoil. 4 For You have broken the yoke of his burden And the staff of his shoulder, The rod of his oppressor, As in the day of Midian. 5 For every warrior's sandal from the noisy battle, And garments rolled in blood, Will be used for burning and fuel of fire. 6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called WonderfulCounselor, Mighty God, Everlasting FatherPrince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

And I will pour out upon the house of David and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace  and supplication. And they shall look [earnestly] upon Me Whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for Him as one who is in bitterness for his firstborn.

Day 26 - Walk in Righteousness!

Romans 5:19 For as through the one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the One the many will be made righteous.

Through Adam's disobedience to God's command (in the garden) mankind were made sinners, so also by Christ's obedience to the Father (in the garden) many who trust Him are declared righteous. Christ's was our sin bearer through His obedience on the Cross.

We are positionally made righteous through the Blood of Jesus but we are called to walk out our righteousness in the earth.

Day 25 - Where Do We Go From Here?

Friends,

We have reached day 25, the 1/2 way point of our 50 days of seeking the Lord. We are counting up in anticipation for another great outpouring of God's Spirit upon us and the world.

Under The Spout,

Revering the Lord,

Where Do We Go From Here?

Awake, Arise, Hear the Call!

Wednesday, May 15
Over the last 3 1/2 weeks we have come to understand that we are in a season of ‘time and promise’ merging. This merging is taking place on an individual, national, and international basis. If we properly ‘discern’ the times we can gain understanding and know what to do personally and corporately during these transitional days.

(I Chr. 12:32)

During the night my spirit was restless, the Holy Spirit kept bringing to mind past events in the United States. 9/11 in particular, the thought or questioned posed to me was - Did an awakening sweep the country? Or Awaken the Church? This was the worst disaster - terror attack to ever hit America and yet it didn’t stir the Church awake. If it did, I didn’t hear about it.

This morning a second Holy Spirit thought came to me regarding the elections of 2000, 04, 08, 12, 2016. There have been 5 election cycles since 9/11 these elections have caused much turmoil in the nation. And yet, no wide spread spiritual awakening has occurred. Mind you, much prayer and worship along with much dealing of iniquitous structures have taken place over the last 19 years.

Could it be that we are coming to a tipping point?

One other thing happen during the night upon getting up to go to the restroom I noticed my husband was awake and watching something on the iPad. I ask him what he was watching, he said, “the 1949 blizzard”. I said, “hmmm that’s the year of the Hebrides revival.” In 1949 America had the ’notorious 1949 blizzard’; it started on Sunday Jan. 2, 1949 and proved the worst of the century. The first storm would be followed by two more months of snow and bitter cold. 76 deaths were reported.

In November of that same year, 1949, the Hebrides revival began. 70 Years later here we are, another interested note regarding the elections. In 2016 Donald J. Trump was elected President, he just so happens to be the nephew of the Smith sisters who birthed this revival while crying out to God "I will pour water on him that is thirsty and floods upon the dry ground."

Coincidence or God set up, just saying!

What’s Next?

Eyes Wide Open

Hebrews 5:14 AMP But solid food is for full-grown men (mature ones), for those whose senses and mental faculties are trained by practice to discriminate and distinguish (discern)  between what is morally good and noble and what is evil and contrary either to divine or human law.

  • Discern G1253: a distinguishing, discerning, judging; to separate, make a distinction.

Questions Holy Spirit ask me?

Where does America stand in the eyes of God?

More importantly

Where does the Church stand in the eyes of God?

Are we living according to Biblical principles? Are we training up people to live by Biblical principles?

What’s Needed?

4 Elements of Awakening

These were all evident in every previous awakening:

  1. Fear of the Lord

  2. Hunger for righteousness and the Holy Spirit.

  3. See the Need (state of affairs in Church and in our world)

  4. United Front: <rally the troops> from 2 elderly ladies, to men gathering during lunch, to denominations uniting for prayer and meetings….the key was UNITY!

Fear of the Lord
Who is the man who fears the LORD? He will instruct him in the way he should choose. - Psalms 25:12

  • Fear H3373 morally reverent; to fear; be (make) afraid, dread (-ful), (put in) fear; reverence.

Fear Ancient Hebrew The pictograph is a picture of a hand, and the is a picture of a man. Awe or fear where one throws self to the foot of one in authority.

The secret of the LORD is for those who fear Him, And He will make them know His covenant. vs. 14

  • Secret H5475 council, counsel, assembly: a session, that is, company of persons (in close deliberation); by implication intimacy, consultation, a secret.

Surely the Lord GOD does nothing Unless He reveals His secret counsel To His servants the prophets. - Amos 3:7

New Spirit Filled Life Bible says; In every era, godly men and women have practiced the fear of the Lord.

The Scriptures reveal several things about the fear of the Lord.

  • It is “clean, enduring forever” (Ps. 19:9).

  • It can be learned (34:11)

  • It is the beginning of wisdom and the beginning of knowledge (Ps.111:10; Proverbs 1:7).

This psalm revealed several promises to the one who fears the Lord.

  1. Guidance: “Him shall he teach in the way that he chooses” (Ps 25:12)

  2. Spiritual prosperity: “He himself shall dwell in prosperity”( v.13)

  3. Future posterity: “his descendants shall inherit the earth” (v.13)

  4. Divine confidant: “The secret of the Lord is with him / them” (v.14)

  5. Covenant: “He will show them His covenant” (v14) and

  6. Deliverance: “He shall pluck my feet out of the net” (v.15)

Day 24 - A Royal Priesthood!

Dear Friends,

Take your place as the royal priesthood; meditate between mankind and God. We need the Spirit of Truth to be released in this hour to convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment.

Under the Spout, Crying Out,

Come Holy Spirit!

The Sixth Wave

The early years of the 20th century witnessed a number of revivals around the world. It is impossible to understand these revivals apart from their roots in the Holiness Movement…During 1893 and 1900, twenty-three new denominations arose out of this movement. A passion for more power, more holiness, more evangelistic success and a greater outpouring of the Spirit took a hold of the church.

Evan Roberts prayed for over eleven years for a spiritual revival to come to Wales. He had a vision that 100,000 souls would come to Christ…On the day of prayer and fasting (according to Torrey) Evan Roberts received an anointing of the Holy Spirit with great power, in a meeting conducted by Seth Joshua. Here the Welsh Revival began. It was Sept 22nd 1904….The revival then took hold in North Wales. Within six months 100,000 had come to Christ!

INTERCESSION Prepares a Way…

Today is the 24th day of Rend the Heavens. 24 priesthood it is composed of a multiple of 12, it takes on some of 12's meaning (which is God's power and authority, as well as perfect foundation) except in a higher form. Twenty-four, therefore, is also connected with the worship of God, the Throne of God.

The biblical priest were mediators; they mediated between the people and God. All true believers are now "kings and priests unto God." As priests we have free access into the holy of holies, to offer up the sacrifices of praise and thanksgiving. To meditate on the behalf of men, those separated from the Lord Most High.

One of the duties of the Priests in the Old Testament was to never let the fire on the altar go out (Lev. 6:13). We are God’s royal priesthood. Therefore the fire of God should be continually burning in us and we should be releasing our prayers which become incense, which in turn get thrown back to the earth.

Revelation 8:3-5

3 Another angel came and stood at the altar, holding a golden censer; and much incense was given to him, so that he might add it to the prayers of all the saints on the golden altar which was before the throne. 4 And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, went up before God out of the angel's hand. 5Then the angel took the censer and filled it with the fire of the altar, and threw it to the earth; and there followed peals of thunder and sounds and flashes of lightning and an earthquake.

ACTION

  • Position yourself to be used as an intercessor to bring for the next great awakening!

  • Call forth revival, awakening in our day!

  • Wait in His Presence, get under the spout of heaven…Ask Holy Spirit for a fresh anointed for intercession.

DO IT, AGAIN, LORD!

The Sixth Great Awakening early 1900’s - 1906 (Azusa St. Revival lasted for 8 yrs. til 1915)

The early years of the 20th century witnessed a number of revivals around the world. It is impossible to understand these revivals apart from their roots in the Holiness Movement which had developed in the late 19th century. Of course, the issue of 'holiness' was not new. John Wesley advocated 'entire sanctification' and 'Christian perfectionism' in his 'Plain Account of Christian Perfection.' The idea that 'sanctification' could be instantaneously experienced subsequent to conversion was a Wesleyan norm. Testimonies to 'experiences of sanctification,' abounded during the 19th century. For example, James Caughey's book entitled 'Methodism in Earnest' is subtitled '...being the history of a great revival in Great Britain; in which 20,000 souls professed faith in Christ, and ten thousand professed sanctification, in about six years, in association with the labours of Rev. James Caughey….'

Phoebe Palmer regularly held meetings for the promotion of holiness and was the first to use the phrase 'baptism of the Holy Spirit' to describe the experience of 'entire sanctification.' Charles Finney also embraced the Wesleyan doctrine of sanctification and his Oberlin presidency successor, Asa Mahan, begin to teach the baptism of the Holy Spirit as a baptism of holiness.

The Holiness Movement was nurtured and matured by a variety of ministries so that, by the turn of the century, America (especially) was awash with hundreds of holiness groups. During 1893 and 1900, twenty-three new denominations arose out of this movement. A passion for more power, more holiness, more evangelistic success and a greater outpouring of the Spirit took a hold of the church.

This was the background of the Evangelical and Pentecostal revival movements of the early 20th century.

In 1900 a revival broke out among South African Boer soldiers, who had been captured by the British and transported to various British colonies. At the conclusion of the war, in 1902, they returned to South Africa and the revival returned with them. Gypsy Smith reaped a great harvest there in 1904.

In Japan, during 1900, the church doubled in size as revival swept through many ailing churches.

In 1902, Torrey and Alexander conducted meetings in Melbourne, Australia, resulting in over 8,000 converts. This news spread like wild fire, igniting a passion for prayer and a fresh expectation for God to work in similar ways everywhere.

In 1904, Torrey and Alexandra were in Cardiff, Wales and, in the light of a minimal response to the Gospel, they called for a day of prayer and fastingSuddenly things changed dramatically and thousands were converted during the next 12 months.

On the day of prayer and fasting (according to Torrey) Evan Roberts received an anointing of the Holy Spirit with great power, in a meeting conducted by Seth Joshua. Here the Welsh Revival began. It was Sept 22nd 1904.

However, the roots of the revival went back further. Young Evan Roberts had been praying for revival and an outpouring of the Holy Spirit for 11 years. Through a vision he received, Roberts believed that God was going to win 100,000 souls. In response to a further vision, he returned home in Loughor from Newcastle Emlyn where he had been enrolled in a Bible College.

During his first few meetings the heavens opened. God's presence seemed to fill the air. Many were prostrated with conviction, others cried for mercy and many were so filled with the Spirit they pleaded with the Lord to stay His hand.

Soon the revival spread to other places in South Wales. Teams of young people assisted preachers like Roberts, Sydney Evans, Seth Joshua, Joseph Jenkins and R. B. Jones. The revival then took hold in North Wales. Within six months 100,000 had come to Christ!

The Welsh Revival was soon the main topic of conversation throughout the Christian world. Wherever the news went it seemed to cause passionate prayer and began to ignite revival fires everywhere. Christians across Great Britain turned to prayer and church membership increased throughout the land.

In Scandinavia a current revival was fanned into a mighty blaze, as a result of the Welsh Revival. Germany was similarly affected as the flame spread across Europe. Austria, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, the Balkans and Russia experienced awakenings.

The United States felt the after-shock of the Welsh Revival in almost every place. Prayer, conviction and conversion spontaneously occurred, resulting in unusual church growth.

In 1906 the modern Pentecostal Movement was born in Azusa Street, in Los Angeles, after a succession of local revivals through 1905. News of the Welsh Revival encouraged more prayer and suddenly the Holy Spirit descended. Daily meetings were held for the next three years. Visitors flocked there to catch the power of the Spirit and they were not disappointed. No one could have imagined that this was the beginning of the greatest and most effective missionary movement that the world had ever seen. It marked the birth of what was once called 'the third force in Christendom.' Some would argue that, 100 years later, it has grown into the largest and most powerful force.

Almost no country in the world was excluded from the effects of this incredible revival. Almost every nation, on each continent, received new power from heaven, a new passion for prayer and for the lost. Hundreds of thousands came to the Lord.

Day 23 - Awake, Arise, Hear the Call!

Greetings,

I received a very simple song today; Awake, arise, hear the call, I say, awake, arise, hear the call and Christ will shine on you!

That's my pray for you, may you (we) awake in this hour, arise for any places of slumbering, and hear the call to partner with Holy Spirit to see awakening / revival come to our lives, homes and nation.

Awakening, Arising, Hearing His Voice,

Sharon

Awake, Arise, Hear the Call!

The Fifth Wave

Week 4 - Monday, May 13th

The Fifth Wave began around 1880 this period is known for its unusual evangelistic effort and success, most of its documentation surrounds the ministry of Dwight L. Moody whose ministry may be described as "highly successful crusade evangelism interspersed with periodic revivalism. Moody traveled, with his singing evangelist companion, Ira Sankey. We may well describe this resurgence or wave as "a missionary revival" which took the flame of the 1859 revival even further around the world, ensuring a strong church base in all nations – just in time for the great 20th Century awakening.

Awake, Sleeper - Hear the Call!

Ephesians 5:14-21 14 Therefore He says: "Awake, sleeper, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light."15 See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise,16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation (wild living); but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, 20 giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 21 submitting to one another in the fear of God.

 - Romans 12:1-2 (TPT)

DO IT AGAIN, LORD!

The Fifth Great Awakening 1880 Onwards…1880 to 1903 (23 yrs.)

It would be vary easy to review this period, 1880 to 1903, as a period of unusual evangelistic effort and success, as most its documentation surrounds the ministry of Dwight L. Moody, together with a host of other ministries that were also born out of the 1857 revival. Orr regards this period also as a 'resurgence.' Certainly the fourth great awakening had produced some highly motivated and anointed ministries, but looking at the world situation, something more than evangelistic success was afoot. It was quite distinct in its character and effects.

It initially centered around the ministry of D L Moody, whose ministry may be described as "highly successful crusade evangelism interspersed with periodic revivalism". Moody began his ministry in Chicago and entered full-time Christian work in 1860, concentrating on his Sunday school and YMCA work. He was God's chosen vessel to take the sparks of the 1857-60 revival to ignite a fresh passion for God and for souls around the world. Moody traveled, with his singing evangelist companion, Ira Sankey, to England a number of times. Spurgeon spoke of the visit of 1873-1875 as "a gracious visitation" and a "very notable ingathering of converts", especially at Newcastle and Edinburgh. Andrew Bonar, too, refers, in his diary to "the tide of real revival in Edinburgh" comparing it with his own experience of revival 35 years earlier. Similar results followed Moody and Sankey as they traversed England, Ireland and Scotland, filling the largest halls in the land.

Moody returned to England in 1881-83 and had an astounding affect on a new breed of evangelists in the U.S., Britain and across the world. His mission in Cambridge, in 1882, marked the beginning of a worldwide interdenominational student missionary movement. Though the YMCA in the States and Christian Unions in the U.K. had their inception during the former revival (1857), Moody's influence transformed these works into powerful missionary movements. The 'Cambridge Seven', including C. T. Studd, were products of Moody's visit and they went to on evangelise China in 1885. By 1912 Studd founded W.E.C., a missionary movement which had great success in parts of Africa. Wilfred Grenfell, the renowned missionary to Labrador was converted at a tent mission led by Moody in 1885.

Similar results occurred in the US. Thousands of young men volunteered for missionary work and the Anglo-American impetus spread around the world, producing the world's Student Christian Federation, which, in turn, provided a large proportion of the outstanding Christian leaders of the early 20th Century.

Moody founded the Moody Bible Institute in 1883, with an emphasis on missions. The Christian and Missionary Alliance was formed during this time by A. B. Sampson and the Christian Endeavour Movement was born out of a revival in Portland, Maine, in 1880-1881.

Other evangelists, spurred on by Moody, threw themselves into the harvest. Sam Jones, J. Wilber Chapman and Billy Sunday had extraordinary success in North America. Andrew Murray exercised a powerful ministry in South Africa, as did John McNeil in Australia.

Revival hit Japan in the early 1880's, increasing the adult membership from 4,000 to 30,000 in five years. The China Inland Mission experienced a large influx of new missionaries. New missions were planted in many unevangelised fields and revivals were reported in India, Africa, South Africa, Madagascar, Australia, Central and South America.

We may well describe this resurgence "a missionary revival" which took the flame of the 1859 revival even further around the world, ensuring a strong church base in all nations – just in time for the great 20th Century awakening.

Day 21 - Revival Birthed By Prayer!

Shalom,

We have been apprehended by Christ Jesus, lets us apprehend (eagerly pursue) Holy Spirit. Let us awake from slumber, arise out of dead works and Christ will shine His light on us!

Yesterday, we heard the call to become aware of the state of affairs in our world; to go past our contentment and step outside to bless the world around us. Another call went forth to covenant with one another in prayer for revival in our communities.

Apprehended By Christ,

Sharon
Revival Birthed By Prayer!

The Fourth Wave

Marks of the Fourth Wave or the Third Great Awakening

Three notable ones were

  • Lay-led Movement

  • Teams (husband & wives) were used mightily in this awakening. Booths (Salvation Army) & Palmers who were American evangelist.

  • Prayer sparked a fire that fanned the flame of revival around the world.

Jesus is calling us to awake and arise from our current state of contentment and He will give us light.
Therefore He says: "Awake, sleeper, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light. - Ephesians 5:14

Jesus gave His followers three commands…

  • When you fast

  • When you give

  • When you pray

Press Onward to the High Calling
Php 3:12-14  Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high (upward) calling of God in Christ Jesus.

    • Apprehend G2638 to take eagerly, that is, seizepossess.

MOST NOTABLE MARK was PRAYER

Revival Born In A Prayer Meeting

It started with a man called Lanphier who was hired to go door to door and encourage people to come to church. For some three months he had been visiting boarding houses, shops, and offices, inviting people to the 88 yr. old Old Dutch North Church at Fulton and Williams streets, New York City.

While making his rounds of visitation, the idea occurred to him that businessmen might like to get away for a short period of prayer once a week while offices were closed at noon. So, he decided to start a noon day prayer meeting right in the downtown of New York.

On 21 September 1857 Jeremiah Lanphier, a businessman, began a series of prayer meetings in New York. By the beginning of 1858 the congregation was crowded, often with a majority of businessmen. Newspapers reported that over 6,000 were attending various prayer meetings in New York, and 6,000 in Pittsburgh. Daily prayer meetings were held in Washington, D.C. at 5 different times to accommodate the crowds. Other cities followed the pattern. Soon, a common mid-day sign on business premises read, "We will re-open at the close of the prayer meeting". By May, 50,000 of New York's 800,000 people were new converts.

Finney wrote of this revival, "This winter of 1857–58 will be remembered as the time when a great revival prevailed. It swept across the land with such power that at the time it was estimated that not less than 50,000 conversions occurred weekly.

The news spread and similar meetings began elsewhere. It would spark a seed in Ulster, Northern Ireland where a man started praying. That broke out into the Second Awakening in Britain.

Millions would come to the Lord. It started with prayer and blossomed into a massive burden for souls. It crossed denominations and was built upon a love for Jesus and for souls. People found in Him rest for their souls.

Many looked at politics for change but the real change came from heaven. The impact was beyond the church.  It impacted the way of life for everyone. It brought social change that was needed.

Out of it came

1. Inner city missions: Cause for youth was championed along with the poor and the oppressed.

2. International missions: Missions were launched to Africa by David Livingston after his death in 1875 Mary Slessor went to Africa.

3. Woman’s rights

4. Child labor laws & Desire for education: Thomas Barnardo, opened an orphanage in the East End of London to care for and educate children of the area left orphaned and destitute by a cholera outbreak. His ministry still is alive some 150 yrs. later.

5. Anti slavery movements (the end of racism today)

Looking back, historians can see that conditions were ripe for revival. The Revival of 1800 began a golden age of religious interest. But by 1843 a nation intent upon getting and spending had lost interest in religion. The West had opened up. Gold was discovered in California. Railroad building was a craze. The slavery issue was hot. Fortunes ballooned. Faith diminished.

Apprehend Us Oh, Lord

May we become eager to pray, may we seize the day, may we possess a hunger for souls and in doing so see a revival, an awakening in our day like surpasses the great awakenings of yesteryear.

Effectual Fervent Prayer

James 5:16-20 AMP

16Confess to one another therefore your faults (your slips, your false steps, your offenses, your sins) and pray [also] for one another, that you may be healed and restored [to a spiritual tone of mind and heart]. The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working]17 Elijah was a human being with a nature such as we have [with feelings, affections, and a constitution like ours]; and he prayed earnestly for it not to rain, and no rain fell on the earth for three years and six months. [1Ki 17:1] 18 And [then] he prayed again and the heavens supplied rain and the land produced its crops [as usual]. [1Ki 18:42-45] 19 [My] brethren, if anyone among you strays from the Truth and falls into error and another [person] brings him back [to God], 20 Let the [latter] one be sure that whoever turns a sinner from his evil course will save [that one's] soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins [procure the pardon of the many sins committed by the convert].

The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

  • Effectual G1754 energeō to be activeefficient: - do, (be) effectual (fervent), be mighty in, shew forth self, work (effectually in).

  • Prayer G1162 a seeking, asking, entreating, to desire, long for, the thing asked for, to pray.

  • Avails G2480  to have (or exercise) force (literally or figuratively):to have power as shown by extraordinary deeds, to have strength to overcome.

  • Much G4183 to a great extent; a great deal

ACTION

  • Read: Psalms 119: 145-152 (revive us, Oh Lord)  also Forth Wave of Awakening below - do it again, Lord!

  • Cry Out for God’s Presence to invade your life, church, city and this nation!

  • Ask Holy Spirit to apprehend you for the high calling of Christ.

  • Set your heart to obey the commands of Jesus. Become a people who fast, give and pray

  • Ask Holy Spirit for a fresh anointing to travail - bring to birth His awakening, revival, reformation.

  • Call forth revival, awakening in our day!

  • Wait in His Presence, get under the spout of heaven…apprehend the Spirit, apprehend men with the gospel of the kingdom.

Hear my voice according to Your steadfast love; O Lord, quicken me and give me life according to Your [righteous] decrees. - Psalms 119:149

DO IT AGAIN, LORD!

The Fourth Wave of 1857 Onwards…1857 to 1865 (8 yrs.)

This Great Awakening (often called the 3rd) was the greatest to date in its extent, effects and lasting impact. It began slowly in Canada, when 21 were saved, and grew steadily until between 25 and forty were converted each day. Slowly reports of small awakenings began to emerge from various states in America. Then, in September 1857 Jeremiah Lanphier, a businessman and convert of Finney's (a decade before), began a noon day prayer meeting on Wednesdays in a New York church. The small but growing numbers decided to meet daily in early October. Within six months over 10,000 business men were meeting in similar meetings across America; confessing sins, being converted and praying for revival. It was a lay-led movement that harvested a million souls in two years. In 1858, from February to June, around 50,000 people a week were added to the church - in a nation whose population was only 30,000,000.

Across the Atlantic another million were won to Christ by 1865. This was in Britain's population of 27,000,000. Ulster saw 100,000 converted, Scotland 30,000, Wales 100,000 and England 500,000.

Evangelistic, missionary and philanthropic enterprises blossomed on every hand. Moody and Sankey enjoyed their greatest success. William and Catherine Booth, converted under the ministry of James Caughey, launched the Salvation Army and attracted great crowds to Christ. Walter and Phoebe Palmer, the American evangelists, saw a remarkable work of the Spirit attend their ministry. Charles Haddon Spurgeon preached to capacity crowds each week, filling the largest halls in London. Hudson Taylor began the China Inland Mission. Gawin Kirkham started the Open Air Mission. Lord Shaftsbury championed for the cause of the young, the poor and the oppressed. Barnardo founded his famous orphanages. David Livingstone and Mary Slessor propagated missionary work in Africa. Such was the impact of this fourth great awakening.

The revival also swept around the world. Rapid growth was reported in continental Europe, western Russia, Australia, The South Seas, South Africa and India.

Day 20 - Prayer Changes Everything?

Greetings,

Today, is day 20. Twenty means redemption, crowning accomplishments, divine completion for spiritual perfection, expectation.

Expectation means to look forward to, regard as likely to happen, anticipation of an outcome, or the occurrence of, the coming of.

May expectation rise in us for a revival to invade our churches, our lives and the next 'great awakening' to sweep across our nation.

Under the Spout of Heaven, Crying Out for Awakening,

Sharon

Prayer Changes Everything!

The Third Wave

Why examine past awakenings and revival? The cry coming from God’s people and many nations is for revival and another "Great Awakening." An awakening goes beyond the influence of a revival. Revival brings back to life the people of God from a state of slumber and apathy.

A "Great Awakening" comes to a whole nation, changing even the culture of the time. The Psalmist exhorts us that: "What we have heard and known, what our fathers have had told us, we will not hide from our children; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord ..." (Psalm 78:2-7).

Marks of the Third Wave of Awakening

This awakening, which began in 1830 only lasted about 12 years ending around 1842. It should be noted that this revival period is often seen as one with the former period. There were a constant stream of spasmodic revivals from 1800-1820 which petered out through the next few years and then exploded from about 1830 onwards… some scholars, particularly Orr, refer to this revival time as a 'resurgence.' …

Nevertheless, because of the 'new measures' and anti-Calvinistic Arminianism of Charles Finney and the astounding influence of this man's ministry it should be seen as quite a separate event.

  1. Charles Finney, was used to bring awakening and aid the spread of revival through his writings.

  2. Man of prayer: Daniel Nash - When God would direct where a meeting was to be held, Father Nash would slip quietly into town and seek to get two or three people to enter into a covenant of prayer with him. Together they would begin to pray fervently for God to move in the community.

  3. Churches increased especially the Methodist Episcopal; doubling in size in two years.

  4. George Muller another powerful man of God pioneered orphanage work, evangelism, and missionary enterprise.

  5. Restoration of doctrine: Brethrenism began during this awakening, they restored the doctrine of the Church and the return of Christ. Also, the restoration of spiritual gifts and apostolic ministries to the Church.

I believe gaining a knowledge and understanding of the history of revivals / awakenings is essential in our preparation for what God is planning to do on the earth.

Yesterday while getting ready for our daughters ministry school graduation I heard the Spirit says, ‘contentment’ He went on to say, “My people are not eagerly seeking revival because they are content with their church life.” He said, they like their church, the worship, the pastor’s teaching, fellowship, etc and therefore do not see the need for an awakening.”

  • Content: satisfied with a certain level of achievement, good fortune, etc., and not wishing for more. ‘something that’s contained in a box’ = Church, the 4 walls, our four and no more mentality.

Then this morning I heard the phrase ‘state of affairs’. The Spirit said, “if we would take time to review the state of affairs in our lives, the Church, the Nation and the ungodly, we would realize we are truly in need of a revival in our hearts and an awakening for the Nation.”

  • State of affairs: the general situation and circumstances connected with someone or something; concerned with the civil government of a country; specify the facts of (a case) for consideration.

Believe me, I get it, most of us have ‘stuff ‘going on in our lives and families that we can’t even think of the bigger picture like the state of the Church or Nation.
But, as Christians (little Christ) we are called to see the bigger picture; Why, because we have within us the HOPE for mankind; the love of the Father, Grace of the Son and the fellowship of Holy Spirit.

There is ONE THING we all can do to hasten revival and that is to PRAY! A simple prayer like ‘Rend the Heavens Oh Lord and Come Down!’ echoed by hundreds or thousands of believers can change the state of affairs in our world - it can hasten awakening in our day!

Could it Be? Covenant of Prayer

  • Covenant: an agreement which brings about a relationship of commitment between God and his people. Also people to people coming into agreement, relationship, commitment with one another for a common cause.

Isaiah 60 :22 A little one shall become a thousand, and a small one a strong nation: I the LORD will hasten it in his time.

  • Synergy: the interaction or cooperation of two or more to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects:

  • Hasten: to show haste, act quickly, hasten, come quickly

Arise, Shine!

Arise, shine; for your light has come, And the glory of the LORD has risen upon you. 2 "For behold, darkness will cover the earth And deep darkness the peoples; But the LORD will rise upon you And His glory will appear upon you. 3 "Nations will come to your light, And kings to the brightness of your rising. 4 "Lift up your eyes round about and see; They all gather together, they come to you. Your sons will come from afar, And your daughters will be carried in the arms. 5 "Then you will see and be radiant, And your heart will thrill and rejoice; Because the abundance of the sea will be turned to you, The wealth of the nations will come to you. - Isaiah 60:1-5

ACTION

  • Read: Psalms 119: 105-112 (revive us, Oh Lord)  also Third Wave of Awakening below - do it again, Lord!

  • Cry Out for God’s Presence to invade your life, church, city and this nation!

  • Ask Holy Spirit to give you a deeper burden of prayer for the lost, for the Church.

  • Would you join me in a ‘covenant of prayer’ to pray fervently for God to move in the community?

  • Ask Holy Spirit for a fresh anointing to travail - bring to birth His awakening, revival, reformation.

  • Call forth revival, awakening in our day!

  • Wait in His Presence, get under the spout of heaven…Arise, Shine the Light of God’s Glory wherever you go!

Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.

- Psalms 55:17

DO IT AGAIN, LORD!

The Third Great Awakening of 1830 onwards…1830 to 1842 (12 yrs.)

Fast on the heels of the Second Great Awakening, the third wave of heavenly power crashed on the shores of the evangelical world, this time without the usual decline. Asahel Nettleton and Charles Finney are names which dominate the American scene, while another American, James Caughey was the most notable revival evangelist active in England.

Finney's well documented ministry began in 1830 and netted 100,000 souls within one year! The Methodist Episcopal church steadily increased in the 1830's, especially through camp-meetings. But their numbers doubled in 1840-1842. Other denominations flourished too.

The greatest effect of this revival was felt far beyond the boarders of North America and for centuries to come. Finney's philosophy of revival, expressed in his autobiography and explained in his "Revivals of Religion", has subsequently affected thousands of Christians and precipitated revivals around the world.

In the UK revivals were widespread throughout the 1830's. Evangelists like Robert Aitkin and William Haslam held highly successful missions. Brethrenism began during this period, restoring the doctrine of the church and the doctrine of the return of Christ. Its noticeable personalities were J. N. Darby and George Müller who pioneered orphanage work, evangelism and missionary enterprise. Another restoration movement was led by Edward Irving, who strongly believed in the restoration of spiritual gifts and apostolic ministries to the church.

John Elias, Christmas Evans and William Williams stormed Wales with their powerful preaching. Scotland also boasted some great revivalists like John and Horatius Bonar, the revival veteran, Thomas Chalmers, Robert Murray McCheyne, W. H. Burns and his son, William Chalmers Burns.

On the wider international front, there were local revivals in various parts of the world, particularly in Scandinavia, central Europe, South Africa, the Pacific Islands, India, Malabar, and Ceylon.

This awakening, which began in 1830 only lasted about 12 years ending around 1842. It should be noted that this revival period is often seen as one with the former period. There were a constant stream of spasmodic revivals from 1800-1820 which petered out through the next few years and then exploded from about 1830 onwards.

Some of the evangelists, like Asahel Nettleton, played a major role in both periods and some scholars, particularly Orr, refer to this revival time as a 'resurgence.' Nevertheless, because of the 'new measures' and anti-Calvinistic Arminianism of Charles Finney and the astounding influence of this man's ministry it should be seen as quite a separate event.

Day 19 - It's Time to Seek the Lord, UNTIL!

Shalom,

Praying for you!  It's time to seek the Lord, UNTIL He rains down upon us!

Prayer is essential, it proceeds and sustains revival / awakening, may we receive a deeper burden for revival prayer.

He's Pouring out, getting under the spout and receives His rain!

Day 19 - It’s Time To Seek the Lord, UNTIL!

The Second Wave

Today, we are going to take a glimpse into the second wave or little-known 'Great Awakening' that lasted about 30 years and its immediate effects were extraordinarily widespread. It also gave a remarkable surge to world missions.

Yesterday, I mentioned 2 things  that are prevalent in every revival / awakening: God, sovereignly moving and people responding with action to God’s movement.

One of the actions of people that is associated with every ‘awakening’ and ‘revival’ is prayer.

Question: Which comes first?

    • Does God move on peoples heart which causes them to start praying which brings His Spirit down?  OR

    • Do people move the heart of God through their intercessions for visitation which bring His Spirit down?

Honestly, it’s a both / and scenario…PRAYER is essential whether God initiates or men initiates it.

WITHOUT PRAYER there will be NO MOVE OF GOD! AWAKENINGS and REVIVALS don’t happen without people seeking the face of God; praying for Him to come! We see this in the Scriptures and with every historic movement of the Spirit.

PRAYER is the common denominator, without it, we will not get the visitation our world desperately needs.

Hosea 10:12

Sow with a view to righteousness, Reap in accordance with kindness (mercy); Break up your fallow ground, For it is time to seek the LORD Until He comes to rain righteousness on you. (NASB)

All awakenings have a God time table, when we commit ourselves to seek His face and repent (break up our fallow (slack, dormant, inactive) hearts He responds.

God said, I will hasten (be quick to do something:) when My people get into my time and seek My face.

    • Time: ’eth’ appointed time

    • Seek: to tread or frequent; usually to follow (for pursuit or search); by implication to seek or ask; specifically to worship; to seek deity in prayer and worship

    • Until: as far as, even to, until, up to, as far (or long, or much)

    • Rain: to throw, shoot, cast, pour; properly to flow as water (that is, to rain).

According to this passage we need to:

  • Sow to righteousness

  • Reap in mercy (kindness)

  • Break up…

  • It’s TIME - know the time!

  • Seek the Lord

  • UNTIL…He Comes!

  • Rains upon us!

Marks of the Second Wave / Awakening

  1. Prayer: a prayer movement or 8 yrs. preceded the awakening that broke out in the UK and 4 yrs. of prayer preceding the US awakening.

  2. Unity: denomination after denomination devoted a monthly Monday evening to prayer.

  3. Venues: Awakening meetings met in churches and in the open air

  4. Missions: Many Missionary Societies were birthed out of this awakening.

  5. Youth: College campuses were mightily impacted by the Spirit.

  6. Signs: ‘astounded revival scenes’ with hundreds falling at once, with shrieks, and shouts, and many conversions.

  7. All denominations were impacted by this move of God.

“All denominations were blessed by this revival. An utterly lawless community was transformed into a God-fearing one. The American Bible Society, American Tract Society, American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Mission and innumerable other societies were founded at this time.”

ACTION

  • Read: Psalms 119: 81-88 (revive us, O’ Lord)  also the Second Wave of Awakening below - do it again, Lord!

  • Cry Out for God’s Presence to invade your life, church, city and this nation!

  • Break up any fallow ground in your heart; repent for whatever is shown you!

  • Ask Holy Spirit to give you a deeper burden of prayer for the lost, for the Church.

  • Ask Holy Spirit for a fresh anointing to travail - bring to birth His awakening, revival, reformation.

  • Call forth revival, awakening in our day!

  • Wait in His Presence, get under the spout of heaven…Go out, sow mercy and kindness wherever you go!

Plow your fields, scatter seeds of justice, and harvest faithfulness. Worship me, the LORD, and I will send my saving power down like rain. (CEV)

DO IT AGAIN, GOD!

Here’s a more in-depth look at the second wave of awakening in late 1700’s early 1800’s.

The Second Great (Wave) Awakening of 1792 Onwards…1792 to 1820’s

This little-known 'Great Awakening' lasted about 30 years and its immediate effects were extraordinarily widespread. It also gave a remarkable impetus to world missions.

This awakening began as a prayer-movement in 1784 (8 years before the rival broke out), when John Erskine of Edinburgh re-published Jonathan Edward's earnest plea for revival prayer. It was entitled, 'An Humble Attempt to Promote Explicit Agreement and Visible Union of God's People in Extraordinary Prayer for the Revival of Religion and the Advancement of Christ's Kingdom". Denomination after denomination devoted a monthly Monday evening to prayer, first in Britain, then in the US.

The barriers were great. There was moral decline following the war of independence in America. The French Revolution, infidelity and rationalism in Europe and dwindling congregations everywhere.

The beginning of the revival can be traced to the industrial towns of Yorkshire in late 1791, spreading through all areas and denominations. The Methodists alone grew from around 72,000 at Wesleys death in 1791 to almost a quarter of a million within a generation.

At the same time, the churches in Wales became packed again and thousands gathered in the open air. The Haldanes (Robert and James) and Thomas Chalmers, with a few others, saw phenomenal awakenings in Scotland. Ireland too, saw local awakenings, especially among the Methodists.

A remarkable result of these UK revivals was the founding the British and Foreign Bible Society, The Religious Tract Society, The Baptist Missionary Society, The London Missionary Society, The Church Missionary Society and a host of other evangelistic agencies. It also achieved considerable social reform; evangelical Anglicans successfully fought for the abolition of the slave trade, prisons were reformed, Sunday Schools began and a number of benevolent institutions were commenced.

In the rest of the world similar movements arose. Around 1800 Scandinavia was impacted and in Switzerland a visit of Robert Haldane sparked off revivals among the Reformed churches. Germany experienced revival and achieved lasting social reforms and missionary fervour.

In the US the concept of prayer was very widespread from 1794 and by 1798 the awakening had broken out everywhere. Every state and every evangelical denomination was affected. Timothy Dwight, grandson of Jonathan Edwards, took over Yale College in 1795 and saw over half the students converted in just one year. Other colleges enjoyed similar movements of the Spirit.

Orr reports that there were no emotional extravagances in the east coast revivals. This was far from the case in other areas. Francis Asbury was sent from England, with and other Methodist circuit-riding preachers, to preach in the Frontiers. James McGready and Barton Stone witnessed an astounding revival at Kentucky in 1800, with much trembling, shaking, tears, shouting and fainting. In 1801 Barton Stone was invited to minister at the Cambridge meeting house in Bourbon County. A second visit attracted 20,000 people to a 6-day camp-meeting, which witnessed astounding revival scenes, with hundreds falling at once, with shrieks and shouts and many conversions.

The Frontier camp meetings were often sabotaged by drunks and mockers, many of whom repented and turned to God. All denominations were blessed by this revival. An utterly lawless community was transformed into a God-fearing one. The American Bible Society, American Tract Society, American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Mission and innumerable other societies were founded at this time.

The revival of 1792 onwards lasted around 30 years until around the early 1820's, but was soon followed by the 1830's revival, which lasted about 12 years before a decade of decline.

Day 18 - Awaken A People!

Dear Awakened Ones,

As I have been studying the Scriptures and reading multiple accounts of ‘awakenings’ and ‘revivals’ two things have become very evident. First, God, sovereignly moves upon a people. Second, people respond to the move of God with repentance and action.

Awakened Unto Him,

Sharon

Awake, Awaken O’ Lord!

Isaiah 51:9-11 Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness, Who seek the LORD: Look to the rock from which you were hewn And to the quarry from which you were dug…Awake, awake, put on strengthO arm of the LORDAwake as in the days of old, the generations of long ago. Was it not You who cut Rahab in pieces, Who pierced the dragon? Was it not You who dried up the sea, The waters of the great deep; Who made the depths of the sea a pathway For the redeemed to cross over? So the ransomed of the LORD will return And come with joyful shouting to Zion, And everlasting joy will be on their heads. They will obtain gladness and joy, And sorrow and sighing will flee away.

God’s Mighty Arm Brings

  1. Removes the enemy obstructing us

  2. Makes a pathway for us to walk so the redeemed can cross over

  3. Ransomed will returned with…

  4. Joyful Shouting

  5. Everlasting Joy

  6. Obtain gladness and joy

  7. Sorrow and Sighing will flee

An Holy Discontentment is Needed

Holy discontent is that which takes ordinary people and sets them on fire. It is the refusal to accept things as they are. It is the determination to make a change in this culture and in the church through the power of Christ and for the glory of God. It is fueled, not by selfish ambition or financial gain, but a passion to make Christ known to a world that desperately needs it.

Awaken From Sleep, Saints of God!

Romans 13:11-14 Do this, knowing the time, that it is already the hour for you to awaken from sleep; for now salvation is nearer to us than when we believed. The night is almost gone, and the day is near. Therefore let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave properly as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.

    • Awakening: an act of waking from sleep (physical & spiritual); act or moment of becoming suddenly aware of something. (our need for the Lord and His Spirit)

  1. Know the Time- it is the hour for you to awaken from sleep.

  2. Lay aside deeds of darkness

  3. Put on armor of light (to shine or make manifest,) Show forth Jesus!

  4. Behave (walk) in a way the honors the Lord and your fellow men.

  5. Put on the Lord Jesus and make no provision for the flesh.

THE SIX WAVES of Awakening!

“Those who have read of revivals may not know that there have been several very distinct periods of revival history since the 16th century Reformation. Their occurrence has often appeared as spasmodic, haphazard, unpredictable and irregular, but this is far from the truth.

We are indebted to the prolific writer and scholar, Dr J Edwin Orr, for his extensive and painstaking research into the history of revivals. His work has clearly revealed several distinct and successive 'great awakenings' or 'resurgences.' These progressive periods of revival are unquestionably the means God has used to counteracts spiritual decline in the church and to promote spiritual advance in the world. There have been six of these major periods or waves from the Reformation to the turn of the 20th century, from 1727, 1792, 1830, 1857,1882 and 1904.

On or around each of the above dates the church enjoyed a fresh wave of God's blessing. We call each of them "great" awakenings because, although they incorporated local revivals, their effects crossed national boundaries and were ultimately world-wide in scope.

A snippet…

The First Wave Awakening of 1727 onwards…1727 to 1766 (39yrs. respectively)

Historically, the beginning of this awakening can be traced to the Moravian community called "Herrnhut" (the Lord's watch), where a visitation from God was experienced after a period of prayer, repentance and reconciliation in 1727…

The effects of the revival (great awakening) were phenomenal. Statistics are hard to find, but we know that 150 new Congregational churches began in a 20-year period and 30,000 were added to the church between 1740 and 1742, probably doubling its size. Moral results were equably noticeable. Nine university colleges were established in the colonies. The wild frontier society was thoroughly Christianized. Early missionary desire began to emerge, most notably in the ministry of David Brainerd among the Indians. His journals are essential reading for all those seeking revival.

Clearly, then this Awakening was truly 'Great' and had notable affect on the majority of countries where Evangelical Christians could be found. It affected the existing church, saw thousands converted and impacted social conditions. Historians usually refer to 1766, the year of the American revolution, as the year by which the revival had spent itself and had began to decline.”

ACTION

  • Read: Psalms 119: 33-40 and read the First Wave of Awakening below - do it again, Lord!

  • Cry Out for God’s Presence to invade your life, church, city and this nation!

  • Ask Holy Spirit to Awaken you, to remove any stale dry place in your heart.

  • Repent from places of apathy and sin. Choose to lay aside deeds of darkness.

  • Put on the armor of Light (to shine or make manifest - Jesus) to the world.

  • Ask Holy Spirit for a fresh anointing to travail - bring to birth His awakening, revival, reformation.

  • Call forth revival, awakening in our day!

  • Wait in His Presence, get under the spout of heaven…move out into a hurting world with the love and presence of the Lord!

For this reason it says, "Awake, sleeper, And arise from the dead, And Christ will shine on you. - Ephesians 5:14

DO IT AGAIN, GOD!

Here’s a more in-depth look at the first wave of awakening in the 1700’s

The First Wave Awakening of 1727 onwards…1727 to 1766 (39yrs. respectively)

Commonly called "The Great Awakening" this was certainly not the greatest revival in numerical growth or geographical scope. Nevertheless, it well deserves the title because it was the first discernible occasion that God's Spirit was outpoured simultaneously across different nations.

Historically, the beginning of this awakening can be traced to the Moravian community called "Herrnhut" (the Lord's watch), where a visitation from God was experienced after a period of prayer, repentance and reconciliation in 1727. Nikolas Count Ludwig Von Zinzendorf, a German, was the leader of the movement that began a 24 hour-a-day prayer meeting, which lasted the next 100 years.

In the next 65 years that small community sent out 300 radical missionaries. Their revived German Pietism was destined to influence two other harvest fields, which were on God's agenda for that time - England and America.

Griffith Jones, a young Anglican clergyman, often called the 'morning star of the revival,' was making a mark in Britain through his revival preaching for at least 10 years before Theodore Frelinghuysen, a Dutch reformed Pietist, began to see remarkable conversions in America. He preached in 1727 with revival signs following his ministry in New Jersey. The revival spread to the Scottish-Irish Presbyterians under the ministry of Gilbert Tennant, whose father, William, founded the famous "Log College", which later became the Princeton University. Revival then spread to the Baptists of Pennsylvania and Virginia before the extraordinary awakening that occurred on Northampton, Massachusetts, under the ministry of Jonathan Edwards in 1734. Edward's personal experience of revivals and his sharp mind, enabled him to produce a number of revival theologies and pastoral observations which have yet to be surpassed in their wisdom and insight. Thereafter, the revival spread to England and was further advanced in America by a visit of George Whitefield in 1739.

The effects of the revival were phenomenal. Statistics are hard to find, but we know that 150 new Congregational churches began in a 20-year period and 30,000 were added to the church between 1740 and 1742, probably doubling its size. Moral results were equably noticeable. Nine university colleges were established in the colonies. The wild frontier society was thoroughly Christianised. Early missionary desire began to emerge, most notably in the ministry of David Brainerd among the Indians. His journals are essential reading for all those seeking revival.

Back in Britain a massive movement of revival had began and was bound up with the ministries of two young men, George Whitefield and John Wesley. Both had been members of the Holy Club in Oxford while they were students. Wesley went off, still unconverted, to America to preach to the Indians in 1736, returning in 1738. The only benefit of this venture was his contact with the Moravians, who he could not understand, but for whom he had a great respect. On Wesley's return, Whitefield had been converted and was already preaching with great effect. For 34 years he exercised a most amazing preaching ministry, with revival signs often following him. His eloquence was commanding and convincing, full of vivid pictures and graphic expressions. "His hearers were taken by surprise and carried by storm" (J C Ryle).

The height of Whitefield's ministry was at the famed Cambuslang Awakening in 1742, when 20,000 and 30,000 people gathered to hear him preach, followed by mass weeping and repentance one and a half hours.

During Whitefield's ministry he preached in almost every town of England, Scotland and Wales, crossing the Atlantic seven times; winning countless souls in Boston, New York and Philadelphia. He publicly preached an estimated 18,000 power-packed messages, although none of his 75 recorded sermons do justice to his style and delivery.

Whitefield's friend, John Wesley, must go down in history as the architect of the 18th century evangelical revival. Converted in 1738, at the well-known Aldersgate Street prayer meeting, he proceeded to preach whenever the opportunity afforded itself, usually in church. Then, in 1739, at Whitefield's request, he preached in the open air at Bristol and followed Whitefield in his preaching places. There began those unusual manifestations which periodically attended his and Whitefield's ministry; falling, crying out, fainting, shrieking, convulsions etc.

Wesley wisely began small societies designed for mutual encouragement and support. These became forerunners of the class-meetings and then of the Methodist Church. They were surely used to conserve the fruits of his revivalistic work. Wesley was an itinerant preacher for 65 years. He traveled an estimated 250,000 miles on horseback to preach 40,000 sermons! He wrote 233 books, including his voluminous journals and a complete commentary on the whole bible. He left behind him 750 preachers in England, 350 in America; 76,968 Methodists in England and 57,621 in America. With Charles, his brother, he penned 9,000 hymns. Wesley's influence has far outrun his long life. His practices and theology has affected Holiness, Revivalist, Pentecostal and Charismatic groups right down to the present day.

Day 17 - Revive Your Work, O' Lord!

Greetings Friends of God,

For the rest of the week we will be looking at the Great Awakenings of the 1700 and 1800 hundreds; some revival historians refer to 3 great awakenings, while others referred to 6 waves of outpouring. For our devotional we will look at the 6 waves of outpouring.

However before we dive into the Great Awakenings I want to expound on the timeline from last week on the restorational moves of God. While having a conversation with my son he bought to my attention that this timeline seems to imply that God wasn’t moving or speaking for 1500 years. However, we know that God never stops moving or bringing men into His present truth, back to pure devotion to Him.

Upon looking deeper into the history of the Church, 2 specific movements stood out: Monasticism which began in 0270; these were fathers and mothers who withdraw from the world to seek greater union with God they established the Monastery lifestyle. The Radical Reformation began in 1525, 8 years after the Protestant Reformation. “The Radical Reformers were seen as a threat to not only the religious but also political structures of the day, by refusing to baptize their children and openly baptizing adults they were declaring that allegiance to Jesus was greater than allegiance to their city or nationstate. The more the movement was persecuted the more that they grew, following the model of the early church that they so longed to emulate.” - Josiah Webster (For more info read below).

With all of my heart I believe Jesus is visiting His people calling us back to the Ancient Paths of God’s Word. He is awakening us, bringing us back to New Testament life, mission, and purpose.

Confessions of the heart

I believe in the Church, I believe in the Body of Christ and that we should honor each others biblical convictions. I consider myself a Bible purest; meaning the Word of God contains the blueprint for life, for Church doctrine, practice, community, for everything. Peter said; “as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,” II Peter 1:3 NKJV

My biblical view often gets me misunderstood; I question why as men do we feel we need to instituted religious doctrines that add to the Bible, establish denominations, separate ourselves into sects (evangelicals, charismatic, non-charismatic, pentecostals, liberals, conservatives, etc) the list goes on and on - I know, how naive?

Paul said; For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building. (I Cor. 1:9) In Romans he said, there are many members, but one body.

Could it be the answer to these divisions is for God’s people to return to His ancient paths?

My heart yearns to see the day when the Church is fully living out ALL Jesus and the apostles laid out in the Scriptures. Revive us, bring us back to paths O’ Lord!

Revive Your Work

“There have been hundreds of revivals over the centuries, some personal, some affecting entire churches and some touching whole localities and nations. But there have been six massive movements of the Holy Spirit since the sixteenth century Reformation which have affected the global Christian community simultaneously. These are commonly called ‘Worldwide Revivals’ or ‘Great Awakenings,’ because of their universal scope and influence. They all began with Christians experiencing God in a new and powerful way, becoming more passionate in their love for God and in their desire to serve Him in their world.

Subsequently, the Holy Spirit used them to invade in the non-Christian world, resulting in masses of conversions, huge social changes and a better world to live in. Jonathan Edwards, in his book ‘The History of Redemption’ states his view that "though there be a more constant influence of God's Spirit always, in some degree, attending His ordinances; yet the way in which the greatest things have been done towards carrying on this work, always has been by remarkable effusions of the Spirit at special seasons of mercy… -Tony Cauchi, November 2009, http://www.revival-library.org/index.php/pensketches-menu/historical-revivals

Habakkuk  3:2-6  2 LORD, I have heard the report about You and I fear. O LORD, revive Your work in the midst of the years, In the midst of the years make it knownIn wrath remember mercy. 3 God comes…And the Holy One… His splendor covers the heavens, And the earth is full of His praise. 4 His radiance is like the sunlight; He has rays flashing from His hand, And there is the hiding of His power. 5Before Him goes pestilence, And plague comes after Him. 6 He stood and surveyed the earth; He looked and startled the nations. Yes, the perpetual mountains were shattered, The ancient hills collapsed. His ways are everlasting.

  • Revive: to bring again to life; to reanimate; To raise from languor, depression or discouragement; to rouse; as, to revive the spirits or courage; To renew; to bring into action after a suspension; to renew in the mind or memory; to recall.; to re-comfort; to quicken; to refresh with joy or hope.

ACTION

  • Read: Psalms 119: 25-32 & updated restorational moves information (see below)

  • Cry Out for another great awakening - revive your work, Lord!

  • Ask Holy Spirit for a demonstration of God’s power to deal with anything that is hindering revival in our day!

  • Ask Holy Spirit for a fresh anointing to travail - bring to birth His awakening, revival, reformation.

  • Wait in His Presence, get under the spout of heaven! Write down what He speaks, frame your world with His words!

And now for a little while grace has been shown from the LORD our God, to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us a peg in His holy place, that our God may enlighten our eyes and give us a measure of revival in our bondage. For we were slaves. Yet our God did not forsake us in our bondage; but He extended mercy to us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to revive usto repair the house of our Godto rebuild its ruins, and to give us a wall in Judah and Jerusalem. - Ezra 9:8-9

0270 Monasticism:

Monasticism, as long as there has been Christianity there have been monastics. From the Desert Fathers and Mothers to the New Monastics, from Mount Athos in Greece to The Abbey of Our Lady of Gethsemani in Kentucky, Christians have been led to withdraw from the world to seek greater union with God. There have been numerous movements within the umbrella of monasticism that have sought to define and create structure for the monastic lifestyle and restore the church as a whole back to the way of Jesus. The Desert Fathers and Mothers were the first to move away from the cities and into seclusion. Benedict’s Rules create an order for the monastic life which survives to this day. St. Francis and Clare seek to return to the roots of Christianity, opening the way for church reform. Similarly in Spain, John of the Cross and Teresa of Jesus were instrumental in the reforms taking place in the Catholic church. There has been a rise in the interest in monasticism over the past 60 years, which can probably be traced back to Thomas Merton’s autobiography ‘The Seven Storey Mountain’ which popularized monastic life for a whole new generation. Similarly, Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a proponent of a return to a type of monasticism that took seriously the call of Christ. Unfortunately, Bonhoeffer seems to be one of the first of the major Protestants to call for a return to monasticism as it has been largely lost in Protestantism. With the rise of New Monasticism, led by Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove and others, the call towards monasticism seems to be resonating once again with young people, and perhaps for the first time with protestants

1525 Radical Reformation: The Radical Reformation was in many ways the logical conclusion to the Reformation. By putting the bible in the hands of ordinary believers and empowering them with authority as priests, the reformers set the stage for a radical redefining of fidelity to Christ. The Radical Reformers were men and women who read the bible for themselves, the bibles translated and given to them by the reformers, and in so doing saw a vision of church and following Christ that was incompatible with the religion of the Pope, Luther, or Zwingli and Calvin. They began in many of the same locations as the Reformation, but spread much slower due to persecution and a lack of leaders (also due to persecution). There were attempts to unite the movement such as the Schleitheim Confession and the Martyr’s Synod that created some shared language and vision for the fledgling movement. If the Protestant Reformation was marked by divisions, the Radical Reformation was marked by a center that held in the midst of great geographic and theological differences. The lack of a church hierarchy allowed the movement to grow rapidly and sustain itself when the leaders were eventually martyred for their beliefs, the most heinous of all being adult baptism.

The Radical Reformers were seen as a threat to not only the religious but also political structures of the day, by refusing to baptize their children and openly baptizing adults they were declaring that allegiance to Jesus was greater than allegiance to their city or nationstate. The more the movement was persecuted the more that they grew, following the model of the early church that they so longed to emulate.

1622 Conclusion to the Radical Reformation

Unfortunately the Radical Reformation has not had the impact on the Christian tradition in the same way that the Protestant Reformation has. However, we no longer fear baptizing people in public so in that sense they have had a tremendous impact on the life of the church. The key strengths of the Radical Reformers were their unswerving loyalty to Christ, the celebration of women as preachers and prophets, the emphasis on the life and teachings of Jesus as exemplary, and their commitment to unity. The Reformers and Radical Reformers shared a commitment to their beliefs in the face of persecution, however the Radical Reformers refusal to join with the state meant they were not afforded the same protections as the reformers. It appears that this may be instructive in our modern context, what does it mean to stand for what you believe even if you do not have the backing of government? The Radical Reformers also had radical women numbered in their midst, from prophets and preachers, to housewives and mothers willing to be martyred for their beliefs, the Radical Reformers emphasized the priesthood of all believers not just the male ones. The Radical Reformers took as their example the life and teachings of Jesus, He became their lens through which they viewed the rest of scripture. Some even went so far as to discount scripture in the pursuit of inner witness (title=Denck,_Hans_(ca._1500-1527). As seen in the differences between their views of scripture there was much room for diversity of belief within the Radical Reformers. Perhaps due to lack of leadership and the geographic spread, the Radical Reformers held fewer distinctive and allowed much more discussion and differing viewpoints than their Protestant or Catholic neighbors. Even though the Radical Reformation has been largely lost in non-Anabaptist circles, it has much to offer the church in the West as it move into Post-Christendom.

1648 Conclusion of the Reformation

The impact of the Protestant Reformation cannot be overstated, it altered not just the religious and political landscape of Europe at the time, but every generation since. It contained the seeds for the sovereignty of nations, the American Revolution, the colonization of the world, and marriage for love. That is only the social and political impact, to say nothing of its affect on Christianity. 500 years on we are still wrestling with the priesthood of the believers, the bible as the basis for church authority, and the Solas (scripture, grace, faith). I fear that we have not learned the lessons from the Reformation, we are still to quick to decry those who think differently than we do or that challenge the status quo. I wonder if the church in America would do well to read the story of the reformation, but from the perspective of the Catholic church and not Luther, Zwingli, and Calvin. The Reformers themselves were unable to come to agreement on several different theological issues, this is both the blessing and curse of not having a governing head. One area where the reformers did not learn from the mistakes of the Catholics and merely carried on with tradition was in regards to the church and the state. Luther in Germany, Zwingli and Calvin in Geneva, John Knox is Scotland, and Thomas Cranmer in England all saw the Reformation as a means to unite political and religious forces for a common goal, much as the Holy Roman Empire and the Church had been doing ever since Constantine. The strengths of the Reformation lie in its democratization of scripture and authority. The priesthood of the believers is so radical that we are still struggling with the concept to this day, preferring to the told what to do rather than speak up.

Day 16 - Could it Be? An Open Door of Glory!

Shalom,

May God’s glory come upon you and may you release the Christ anointing within you to the world around you!

Ezekiel 44:4 And He brought me by the way of the north gate(door) before the house. And I looked, and, behold, the glory of Jehovah filled the house of Jehovah. And I fell on my face.

“The drinking house was closed-the drinking house was closed. Now, people--that's revival. That is God at work. Miracles, supernatural, beyond human explanation-it's God. And I am fully persuaded, dear people, that unless we see something like this happening the average man will stagger back from our efforts, our conferences, conventions and crusades--they will stagger back disappointed, disillusioned and despairing. But oh, if something happens that demonstrates God!” - Duncan Campbell

Exodus 33:18-20  Then Moses said, "I pray You, show me Your glory!” God said, "You cannot see My face, for no man can see Me and live!  But "I Myself will make all My goodness pass before you, and will proclaim the name of the LORD before you; and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show compassion on whom I will show compassion."

Moses longed to get a glimpse of the face of God. He knew Him as a voice, a cloud and the pillar of fire. Since Moses’ day this has been men’s heart cry - show me, your glory! Show me Your Face!

Beloved, we now can see the Face of God. Jesus is the expressed image of the Father.

Hebrews 1:1-3 God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

  • Express image of His person: The idea is of an exact likeness as made by a stamp.

We are crying out for a supernatural outpouring of the Spirit of God that releases the Presence (Glory) of God upon mankind - I believe we will see that in our day!

BUT the #1 way the world will experience the glory of God - God’s presence is when we release the Christ (anointing) within us to those we encounter on a daily basis.

Colossians 1:25-28  Of this church I was made a minister according to the stewardship from God bestowed on me for your benefit, so that I might fully carry out the preaching of the word of God, that is, the mystery which has been hidden from the past ages and generations, but has now been manifested to His saints, to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. We proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom, so that we may present every man complete in Christ.

  • Christ in you, the hope of glory: our hope of experiencing God’s glory - His manifest presence on earth and going to heaven after death, can only be obtained through Christ Jesus.

  • Christ in you, the hope of glory: we are the worlds hope of experiencing God’s manifest presence and gaining access to heaven. How? Letting Christ Jesus’ anointing pour forth from us to the lost and hurting.

The Hebrides revival was a supernatural outpouring of God’s presence on a nation - we are crying out for the Spirit to move mightily across our land.

Today, we understand that the Spirit of God can move through every born again believer. Christ in you (us) is the hope of glory for mankind. We can and should walk a Christ-like anointed life with signs and wonders following.

Revival in our day is not to be ‘either/or’ but both/and. In other words, we should not only be looking for an external supernatural outpouring of the Spirit BUT endeavor to be individuals infused with the love, presence and power of Jesus. So that wherever we go revival, which is dead things coming to life, breaks out!

A Sovereign move of the Spirit can only come from the Father, we need it!

BUT a Christ in you move of the Spirit can be released whenever, wherever, however we let Holy Spirit move through us!

ACTION

  • Cry Out for God’s Presence to invade your life, family, church, city and this nation!

  • Ask Holy Spirit to open your eyes to this Ayin season, to the supernatural realm of heaven.

  • Stir up the anointing that’s within you - pray in your heavenly language.

  • Wait in His Presence, get under the spout of heaven, then…

  • Go out and release the glory of God that comes from the Christ within.

And my message and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith would not rest on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God.

- I Corinthians 1:4-5

OH, THAT You would rend the heavens and that You would come down, that the mountains might quake and flow down at Your presence--As when fire kindles the brushwood and the fire causes the waters to boil--to make Your name known to Your adversaries, that the nations may tremble at Your presence! - Isaiah 64:1-2

Day 15 - Could it Be? The Season of an Open Door!

Shalom Seeking Ones,

We begin week 3 today; this week we will finish up reading about the Hebrides revival and begin looking at the Great Awakenings of yesterday - crying out, Lord, doing it in our day!

Entering through the Open Door,

Sharon

Could It Be? Season of An Open Door!

Could it be that we have come to a season of the open door? Revelation 4 is a beautiful passage of scripture. John the Revelator was given an invitation to ‘come up here’ to the heavenly throne of God. Come up to receive revelation of ‘what must take place after these things’. The book of revelation reveals a time yet to be, there are two basic interpretations of this book: classical, historic approach and the dispensational approach.

We, however will look at this passage as an invitation from the Lord to see into the heavenly realm. To engage with God’s Throne and to hear a message from the voice of God.

Acts 22:14 (AMP) And he said, The God of our forefathers has destined and appointed you to come progressively to know His will [to perceive, to recognize more strongly and clearly, and to become better and more intimately acquainted with His will], and to see the Righteous One (Jesus Christ, the Messiah), and to hear a voice from His [own] mouth and a message from His [own] lips.

Revelation 4

1 After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven, and the first voice which I had heard, like the sound of a trumpet speaking with me, said, "Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after these things.” 2 Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne was standing in heaven, and One sitting on the throne. 3 And He who was sitting was like a jasper stone and a sardius in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, like an emerald in appearance. 4 Around the throne were twenty-four thrones; and upon the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white garments, and golden crowns on their heads. 5 Out from the throne come flashes of lightning and sounds and peals of thunder. And there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God; 6 and before the throne there was something like a sea of glass, like crystal; and in the center and around the throne, four living creatures full of eyes in front and behind. 7 The first creature was like a lion, and the second creature like a calf, and the third creature had a face like that of a man, and the fourth creature was like a flying eagle. 8 And the four living creatures, each one of them having six wings, are full of eyes around and within; and day and night they do not cease to say, "HOLY, HOLY, HOLY is THE LORD GOD, THE ALMIGHTY, WHO WAS AND WHO IS AND WHO IS TO COME. 9 And when the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, to Him who lives forever and ever, 10 the twenty-four elders will fall down before Him who sits on the throne, and will worship Him who lives forever and ever, and will cast their crowns before the throne, saying, 11 "Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created.”

Years ago we held Fire and worship gatherings on the Central Coast during one of them this prophetic word came forth. As I was preparing for the 12 hr. Prayer watch which took place this past Friday the Spirit took me to this prophetic word. The Spirit said, this word has come to maturity, its now time for its fulfillment. As you read the prophesy and the account of the Hebrides revival may you come to understand they are invitations to live in a realm of the Spirit we have yet to know - supernaturally living out the Scriptures.

Day 14 - Could it Be The Appointed Time?

Dear Seekers Of God,

We have come to the end of week 2. Over the next 3 days one of our actions steps is to read the first-hand account of the Hebrides revival.  This was an incredible outpouring of supernatural visitations upon Scotland, its a must read. As you do so, the Holy Spirit will visit you!

Do It Again, Lord!

Sharon

Often as we see in Daniel the appointed time of God’s visit visitation or fulfillment can be a long time coming. And the thing was true, but the time appointed was long: and he understood the thing, and had understanding of the vision.  - Daniel 10:1

Then he said to me, "Do not be afraid, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart on understanding this and on humbling yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to your words. Dan 10:12

Yesterday, the Holy Spirit revealed that it has been 70 years since the Hebrides revival. When Daniel realized that the 70 years of Israel’s captivity had come to an end and it was time for God to visit his people again he set his face to seek the Lord.

We too have set our face to seek the Lord for a fresh outpouring of God’s spirit upon us, our families, our churches and our land. As the spirit revealed yesterday 70 means in Hebrew the turning of captivity, many of us have been in a place of barrenness, dryness, spiritual apathy a.k.a. captivity

I believe the first day we set ourselves to seek the Lord He sent his angelic host and Holy Spirit to breathe new life into us!

Psalms 107:4-9

4They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in. 5 Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them. 6Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses. 7And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation. 8 Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! 9For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness.

COULD IT BE we have come INTO A TIME OF HOLY SPIRIT OUTPOURING - when the PRESENCE OF GOD once again INVADES THE EARTH or at least our portion of it!

COULD IT BE THAT TIME AGAIN, oh somehow I believe it is!

Over the next three days we are going to read Duncan Campbell’s account of the Hebrides revival; there is no better way to understand this incredible outpouring of God’s Presence than from an eyewitness account.

4 Generation after generation will declare more of your greatness and declare more of your glory. 5 Your magnificent splendor and the miracles of your majesty are my constant meditation. 6 Your awe-inspiring acts of power have everyone talking! I’m telling people everywhere about your excellent greatness! 7 Our hearts bubble over as we celebrate the fame of your marvelous beauty, bringing bliss to our hearts. We shout with ecstatic joy over your breakthrough for us.

Day 13 - Could It Be? 70 Yrs. Has Ended, Captivity Is Being Turned!

Beloved,

It's day 13 of Rend the Heavens; as you will see and hear 70 yrs. has ended and its now time for captivity (barrenness, dryness, spiritual apathy, etc.) to be removed from us and from our land.

When Daniel realized that 70 yrs. of Jerusalem captivity (ruin) had ended, he knew that it was time for God to visit His people. So Daniel, cry out to the Lord, set his face to seek His God.  Oh, may we do the same in this hour!

Could it Be?

Crying out for God's Presence to Invade,

Sharon

Could it Be? 70 Yrs Has Ended, Captivity is Being Turned!

OH, THAT You would rend the heavens and that You would come down, that the mountains might quake and flow down at Your presence — As when fire kindles the brushwood and the fire causes the waters to boil--to make Your name known to Your adversaries, that the nations may tremble at Your presence!

 - Isaiah 64:1-2 (AMP)

This week our focus has been on a corporate move of God in our day, upon our land. We have determined that individually and as a nation we desperately need the Presence of God to invade our lives, our churches, our cities, and our land.

We looked at the meaning of revival, 9 characteristics of OT revivals, the Azusa revival of 1904, the Jesus movement of the early 70’s. We also learned of two great reformations: one from the OT system of worship to the NT system of worship which came through Jesus, our Passover Lamb. The second was in the 16th Century when a man challenged the religious system of his day by nailing the 95 theses or arguments to be debated to a church door.

As we dived into the the Word of God it was revealed that as a Church we need to return to the Ancients Paths - instead of walking on the byway (trodden path of men) we must walk on the highway (highroad of the Lord).

In Acts 10 we saw a pattern for nations to be reached, starting with one man and his family an entire people group was touched (Gentiles - us!). We also learned that life in the Spirit should never be common or ordinary; angelic visitation, trances, divine calls, preaching the Word with signs following and supernatural outpouring of the Spirit should encompass of daily lives.

I don’t know about you but this does not describe my daily life…Come, Lord, O’ how we need Your Presence! Holy Spirit fall afresh on us, endue us with power!

We also learn of 4 historical keys to revival: unlikely people were used, key places were chosen, simple theology   was preached and prayer was at the center. To me a very important element was left out of these historic keys - the Presence of God, maybe it was to be understood that God’s presence the heart of these keys. BUT Holy Spirit revealed to me that longing for the Presence of God must be paramount in our pursuit of revival, renewal, refreshing, reformation, restoration, etc.

This takes us back to Exodus 33 where Moses says, “unless your Presence goes with us, don’t take us up from here” and he said, “It’s Your Presence that distinguishes us from every other people group.” (paraphrase by Sharon)

It’s Your Presence that distinguishes us from every other people group!

I want to bear my heart to you, I am not interested in going to ‘revival meetings - protracted meetings’ where men endeavor to get God to come down. Now, don’t misunderstand me, gathering together to pray and seek God’s face its of the upmost importance, we must do it all the more in this hour.

But, if our heart and intent is to ‘make’ revival happen or be the ministry or church where the revival begins is of no of interest to me. Unless we make our meetings about ‘seeking His face - waiting in His Presence- calling upon Him to come down’ then our gathering together is in vain.

For a some time now, I’ve had a draw to the Hebrides revival not really understanding why.

This morning as I began to pray about what Holy Spirit wanted to speak to us He led me to look up the Hebrides revival. Google took me to an article written by Duncan Campbell, the gentleman the Lord used in a powerful way that time, many attribute the revival to him but he vehemently denies those claims. He said, “Revival was there before I ever set foot on the island. It began in a gracious awareness of God sweeping through the parish of Barvas.”

Then he says something that made me understand why I’ve been drawn to this particular revival.

“Then I would like to make it perfectly clear what I understand of revival. When I speak of revival, I am not thinking of high-pressure evangelism. I am not thinking of crusades or of special efforts convened and organized by man. That is not in my mind at all. Revival is something altogether different from evangelism on its highest level. Revival is a moving of God in the community and suddenly the community becomes God conscious before a word is said by any man representing any special effort.”

Oh How We Need Your Presence O’ Lord!

Another interesting fact I learned while reading this article was the the Hebrides revival began in 1949. Holy Spirit cause that date to jump off the page, so subtracting 1949 from 2019 = 70. 70 years ago the Hebrides revival broke out, it only last about 5-6 years but it was marked by God’s supernatural Presence invading the islands of Scotland.

Immediately upon learning that it was 70 years ago; the Spirit took me to Daniel 9, starting with verse 3 is says; I, Daniel, learned… that The LORD had told the prophet Jeremiah that Jerusalem would remain in ruins for 70 years. And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes: And I prayed unto the LORD my God.

When Daniel realized the 70 years of destruction had ended, and it was time for God to visit His people, he set his face towards heaven and began to cry out.

O’ may we do the same in this hour!

Could it Be?
70 = released from captivity

70 = Ayin, it’s the Hebrew number for seventy. We are in an Ayin season, actually the last year of this 10 year cycle. The Lord has been speaking for 10 years that He wants to take His people out of places of captivity.

Ayin is about LOOKING BEYOND AND SEEING WHAT YOU COULD NOT SEE IN THE LAST SEASON!

Ayin is a pictograph of eye, well or spring:

- a season to see / look again / see things in a different way

- season God is Watching (2 Chr. 16:9)

- time to increase spiritual vision

- gain new perspective

- revisit your old dreams

- go back over prophetic words ‘where am I now in relation to those words?’ Don’t listen to the voice of unbelief! Say, restore my vision – ask the Lord to let you see your next step.

+ Supernatural Season: Ayin has other words that are associated with it one is Irin = angels / watchers: good and fallen angels

+ Spring or well is also associate with Ayin therefore what is in the earth comes welling up; rumbling, earthquakes etc.

COULD IT BE that we have come to a completion of barrenness, dryness, spiritual apathy, lack of Holy Spirit empowerment?

INTO A TIME OF HOLY SPIRIT OUTPOURING - when the PRESENCE OF GOD once again INVADES THE EARTH or at least our portion of it!

COULD IT BE THAT TIME AGAIN, oh somehow I believe it is!
Over the next few days we are going to look more into the Hebrides revival and learn what Daniel did when he learned that the 70 years had ended.

ACTION

  • Read: Isaiah 44:1-5; Daniel 9:1-19

  • Cry Out for Revival for God’s Presence to invade your life, church, city and this nation!

  • Ask Holy Spirit open your eyes to this Ayin season, to the supernatural realm of heaven.

  • Ask Holy Spirit for a fresh anointing to travail - bring to birth His awakening, revival, reformation.

  • Wait in His Presence, get under the spout of heaven! Write down what He speaks frame your world with His words!

Then, to show my sorrow, I went without eating and dressed in sackcloth and sat in ashes. I confessed my sins and earnestly prayed to the LORD my God: Our Lord, you are a great and fearsome God, and you faithfully keep your agreement with those who love and obey you. - Daniel 9:3 (CEV)

Day 12 - Frame Your World By Faith / Protestant Reformation

Shalom,

Today's recording is a little longer but its packed with good stuff from the Spirit. I have a few favorite passages of Scriptures; Hebrews 11 is one, its a hall of fame of men and women who by faith framed their worlds.

Hebrews 11: 38-39 says, And all these, having gained approval through their faith, did not receive what was promised, because God had provided something better for us, so that apart from us they would not be made perfect.

Positioning Myself Under the Spout of Heaven,

Tarry there and I will come says the Lord!

Sharon

Frame Your World By Faith / Protestant Reformation

By faith we understand that the worlds [during the successive ages] were framed (fashioned, put in order, and equipped for their intended purpose) by the word of God, so that what we see was not made out of things which are visible. - Hebrews 11:3 (AMP)

As we saw yesterday the first great reformation took place when John the Baptist and Jesus took their place as God’s instruments for change.

John the Baptist prepared the way declaring, repent, for the Kingdom of God is at hand and receive the One who is coming!…Let us do the same IN our day!

Jesus reformed the religious system of His day…LET US DO THE SAME IN OUR DAY!

The second great reformation took place in the 1500’s when Martin Luther nailed the 95 theses to the door of a church in Wittenberg.

Martin Luther framed a change to religious tradition and heresy using the Word of God…LET US DO THE SAME IN OUR DAY!

The Reformation (more fully the Protestant Reformation) was a movement within Western Christianity in 16th-century Europe that posed a religious and political challenge to the Roman Catholic church – and papal authority in particular.

“In 1517, in one of the signal events of western history, Martin Luther, a German Augustinian monk, posted 95 theses on the church door in the university town of Wittenberg. That act was common academic practice of the day and served as an invitation to debate. Luther’s propositions challenged some portions of Roman Catholic doctrine and a number of specific practices.

Luther argued that the Bible, not the pope, was the central means to discern God’s word — a view that was certain to raise eyebrows in Rome. Further, Luther maintained that justification (salvation) was granted by faith alone; good works and the sacraments were not necessary in order to be saved.

Luther had been especially appalled by a common church practice of the day, the selling of indulgences. These papal documents were sold to penitents and promised them the remission of their sins. To Luther and other critics it appeared that salvation was for sale. Rome enthusiastically supported the use of indulgences as a means to raise money for a massive church project, the construction of St. Peter’s basilica.

There was nothing secret about Luther’s challenges. He sent a copy to his bishop, who in turn forwarded the theses to Rome.

The details of the development and spread of what would become Lutheranism are outside the confines of U.S. history, but it is important to note that the movement quickly gained adherents in the German states, the Netherlands, Scandinavia, Scotland and portions of France. Support came from sincere religious reformers, while others manipulated the movement to gain control of valuable church property…

The term Protestant was not initially applied to the reformers, but later was used to describe all groups protesting Roman Catholic orthodoxy.

Lutheranism would have some impact on the development of American history, but far more important were the efforts of the reformers of the reform movement. Ideas set forth by John Calvin, a French theologian living in Geneva, were particularly influential. The Puritans, Huguenots and Presbyterians played prominently in the settlement of America and in the molding of colonial beliefs and values.” https://www.u-s-history.com/pages/h1136.html

LET US DO THE SAME IN OUR DAY!

“Across the globe today there is a growing cry to God for a fresh outpouring of revival power. There are very few live churches in the Western world that do not have this hope in their hearts and on their prayer agendas. They are saying that what they are currently experiencing is so weak and anaemic, so shallow and ineffective that they need a new season of refreshing from the presence of the Lord.

They have heard of times in the past when God visited His people and restored their fortunes. They are excited by the possibility of a fresh wind of God’s Spirit in the church. Many are developing a holy passion, even a desperation, for God to come down from heaven and establish His Kingdom amongst men. They are jealous for His name and His fame. Their appetites have been whetted and they are spoiled for anything less.  But what can they do? What steps can they take? What is an appropriate response to the need of this hour? What does God want us to do?”   - Quote from Tony Cauchi, March 2009, Revival Library website

FRAME YOUR WORLD With the Word of God.

What can we do to hasten awakening, revival, reformation in our day? We see a revival prayer principles in 2 Chronicles 7:14

  1. Humble ourselves…otherwise God will humble us. (Matthew 21:44)

  2. Pray for fuller revelation of God’s glory to His people.

  3. Seek His Face - His Presence! Give Holy Spirit space, let Him have His way in our gatherings!

  4. Turn from our wicked ways (same word as byways - ways of man and means to turn back to His ancient paths). The Church has preached this scripture as turning from sin (abortion, murder, hate, etc.) of course it includes those things BUT its true meaning is to TURN BACK TO GOD’S ANCIENT PATHS!

The Spirit says there are 3 more godly principles we must implore in these days.

  1. Faith…NOW FAITH is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses]. Heb. 11:1

  2. Frame our world with what God says…not what we see or hear! Jesus NEVER prayed the problem, He released the answer!

  3. Travail…we need a fresh anointing to travail - bring to birth His awakening, revival, reformation.

I keep hearing in my spirit, its time for some good old fashion ‘tarrying’ in the Presence of the Lord. Since last August I’ve been hearing ‘call forth the wailing women once again’.

We see this principle / pattern in Luke and Acts: Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” (Lk. 24:49)…And when they had entered, they went up into the upper room where they were staying…These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication (Acts 1:13-14). When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place, (Acts 2:1). They had been ‘tarrying’ - waiting in God’s Presence for 10 days.

Mighty Men and Women Framed Their World

Hebrews 11

1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. 2 For by it the men of old gained approval. 3 By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible.

By faith Abel offered to God a better sacrifice

By faith Enoch was taken up

By faith Noah, being warned by God about things not yet seen, in reverence prepared an ark

By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place

By faith even Sarah herself received ability to conceive

By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac

By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau, even regarding things to come.

By faith Jacob, as he was dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph, and worshiped,

By faith Joseph, when dying, made mention of the exodus and gave orders concerning his bones.

By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents

By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter,

By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured, as seeing Him who is unseen

By faith he kept the Passover

By faith they passed through the Red Sea

By faith the walls of Jericho fell down

By faith Rahab the harlot did not perish

32 And what more shall I say? For time will fail me if I tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets, 33 who by faith conquered kingdoms, performed acts of righteousness, obtained promises, shut the mouths of lions, 34 quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, from weakness were made strong, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight. 35 Women received back their dead by resurrection; and others were tortured, not accepting their release, so that they might obtain a better resurrection 36 and others experienced mockings and scourgings, yes, also chains and imprisonment. 37 They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were tempted, they were put to death with the sword; they went about in sheepskins, in goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, ill-treated. 38 (men of whom the world was not worthy), wandering in deserts and mountains and caves and holes in the ground.

39 And all these, having gained approval through their faith, did not receive what was promised, 40 because God had provided something better for us, so that apart from us they would not be made perfect. - Hebrews 11

ACTION

  • Read: Hebrews 11-12:1-2

  • Pray for reformation…for the Church to walk in the fullness of New Testament Christianity

  • Cry Out for Revival for God’s Presence to invade your life, church, city and this nation!

  • Ask Holy Spirit for a fresh endowment of faith - the kind of that moves mountains.

  • Ask Holy Spirit for a fresh anointing to travail - bring to birth His awakening, revival, reformation.

  • Wait in His Presence, get under the spout of heaven! Write down what He speaks then

  • Frame your world with God’s Word

Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. - Hebrews 12:1-2
